Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says Jakorian Bennett’s “speed, coverage ability and special teams value” persuaded him to sign the cornerback in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for defensive tackle Thomas Booker.
A fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft, 24-year-old Bennett is expected to provide competition for Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Kelee Ringo, Adoree’ Jackson and Mac McWilliams.
“We liked his tape when he was with the Raiders,” explained Sirianni. “We’re excited to have him.”

Eagles swoop for Raiders’ Bennett
“We thought that was an opportunity to add some depth at corner,” added Sirianni. “We’ll miss Booker and wish him the best.
“We feel good about our depth at defensive tackle but it’s just a way to add depth at corner. We’ll get him going and see how that goes.
“There’s a lot of meeting time we have to make up. We’re getting him early in camp, though, so, we’ll catch him up during off-time and meetings.”
Jakorian Bennett stats
Bennett played 27 times with 25 starts at Maryland between 2020 and 2022, becoming a two-time honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference and recording 69 tackles (55 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions and 26 passes defensed.
The 2022 Duke’s Mayo Bowl MVP featured in 14 games with four starts during his rookie season with the Raiders, posting 32 tackles (24 solo) and three passes defensed.
In 2024, Bennett featured in 10 games – making seven starts – and finished on 26 tackles (15 solo) and eight passes defensed.
Philadelphia Eagles: Fangio on Jackson, Ringo
Eagles defensive co-ordinator Vic Fangio says the competition between frontrunners Jackson and Ringo to start opposite Mitchell is “close”.
“Both of them are having a good camp,” Fangio observed on Monday, speaking during the Eagles’ pre-season camp at their NovaCare Complex base. “I’ve been happy with them.”
While Ringo joined in 2023, Jackson signed in March. “Adoree”s had a good camp and is competing well,” said Fangio.
“He’s focused with a good mindset, and I like where he’s at right now. He’s a veteran but he’s new here and the things we’re asking him to do are new to him.”
Eli Ricks: Eagles prospect’s ‘improvement’
Eli Ricks is being tipped by some to challenge at cornerback after impressing during pre-season.
“He has made some plays in the last few days that were good,” Fangio said of the 23-year-old.
“He needs to eliminate the negative ones, which he’s working hard to do. I see definite improvement from last year.
“He hasn’t played enough yet to know, but he’ll get a bunch of snaps in pre-season.”
