Sinnners breakout star Miles Caton wants to play an iconic Marvel superhero. Caton makes his feature film debut in Sinners, playing the role of Sammie “Preacher Boy” Moore, the young cousin of Michael B. Jordan’s Smoke Stack twins. Moore has been a musical prodigy since childhood, and now, at just 20 years old, he is one of the stars of the number one movie at the North American box office, and one of the best-reviewed movies of the decade.
Caton is likely going to be in demand, but it looks like he has his eyes set on one particular role. In an interview with Variety, Caton was asked what type of movie genre he would most like to join, and he revealed that action is high on his list, specifically citing his love for Marvel. When asked which superhero he wanted to play, Caton alluded to none other than Miles Morales, a.k.a. Spider-Man:
“I love comedy. Action. Adventure. I’m a big Marvel fan. Marvel, that’s top of the top, so shooting for the stars…I mean my name is Miles.”
When Will Miles Morales Join the MCU?
Miles Morales was created in 2011 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, and made his first appearance in Ultimate Comics: Fallout #4. Miles Morales became Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe after the death of Peter Parker. He quickly became so popular that, following the events of Secret Wars, the character was folded into the main 616 Marvel Comics universe and is now Spider-Man alongside the original Peter Parker. Most audiences now likely know Miles Morales through his role in the PlayStation Spider-Man games and the two Spider-Verse films, with Beyond the Spider-Verse set for release in June 2027.

Caton dreams of joining the MCU, which seems like a possibility, but for Miles Morales, it might be a bit more challenging. While fans have wanted to see Morales take over the Spider-Man franchise from Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, the news of Spider-Man: Brand New Day implies a new chapter in Peter Parker’s life. This suggests it might be some time until Miles Morales makes his live-action debut, despite being teased in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. Morales could be introduced after Avengers: Secret Wars, but by that point, Caton would be 22 and likely getting past the primary age to play Miles Morales. There is also the fact that Morales is Afro-Latino, meaning Marvel and Sony might need to be very specific in who they cast as the Marvel hero.
However, with Sinners director Ryan Coogler set to return for Black Panther 3, Caton is well-positioned to join the MCU. If not, it is certainly likely that, following the incredible word of mouth Sinners has received from critics and viewers, Caton is at the top of Marvel’s casting list, particularly since he is a fan of the franchise. While Nova has been put on hold for the time being, Caton could make for a great Richard Rider. He could also step into several X-Men roles when Marvel Studios eventually reboots the mutant team after Avengers: Secret Wars.
