Through its two-season run so far, Silo has sadly seen several main character deaths. It started with Allison Becker (Rashida Jones), who sacrificed herself to prove what she thought was the truth. Then, it was George (Ferdinand Kingsley), whose death was the precursor to Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) looking into things at the silo. Deaths continued to abound in Season 1, including Holston Becker (David Oyelowo), Ruth Jahns (Geraldine James), and Sam Marnes (Will Patton).
This didn’t slow down in Season 2 as the body count continued with Judge Mary Meadows (Tanya Moodie), Terry Cooper (Matt Gomez Hidaka), and the latest season finale death that left fans reeling.
Who Died in the Season 2 Finale of ‘Silo’?
Dr. Pete Nichols, played by Iain Glen, was a polarizing character in Silo. While he demonstrated deep love for his daughter Juliette, they were estranged from when she was a child. Following the death of her mother by suicide, she blamed her father and resented him. Seeing as he worked so much anyway, she opted to move down to the lowest level of the silo, effectively being raised by the engineering team. She loved building and fixing things, so this fit well with her personality. He obliged, leaving her in the care of Martha (Harriet Walter).
As the episodes went on, fans learned more about Dr. Nichols. He was dedicated to his career, but he was also complacent in one of the most egregious acts of the higher-ups at the silo. He would pretend to remove implants that prevented women from getting pregnant, only to actually leave them intact. These women, who the leaders did not want to procreate, would try to conceive for months later with no luck. They were led to believe it simply wasn’t meant to be.
He felt deep guilt and shame for doing this, and it started to catch up with him once Allison revealed the truth, and Juliette discovered what he was doing. He did what he could to help Juliette as she investigated what was going on from her new post as the sheriff. He put his job at risk to do what was right and show Juliette that he was a good person.

What [SPOILER] Death Means for the Future of ‘Silo’
The fourth episode of ‘Silo’ Season 2 featured yet another harrowing death, and this one will have major implications for the story.
Following Juliette being sent out to clean and being presumed dead, Pete fell into a deep depression. He slowly began to resent the silo and his part in making it run. He made moves to go against the leaders, starting with refusing to remove an implant from a woman with whom he had recently had a conversation about her desire to have children.
His biggest move, however, was to join the folks from engineering in their fight back against Bernard (Tim Robbins) and the others. However, a simple mistake led to his death. While transporting a bomb up the stairs and through the guards, they accidentally dropped the timing device for it. When he discovered it was missing, he gave Hank (Billy Postlethwaite) a knowing look. He knew what he had to do. Hank pleaded with Pete not to do it, offering himself instead. But Pete insisted and told Hank to go.
As Martha revealed what was happening to Bernard and the clock struck, she was devastated not to hear the bomb go off. But moments later, as Pete put together the trigger, it did. He was presumed dead in the blast, sacrificing himself for the sake of the silo and for his daughter, whom he had just learned may very well still be alive.
Iain Glen Died Another Sacrificial Death in ‘Game of Thrones’
Fans may recognize actor Iain Glen from his role as Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones. The characters are quite different but have a similarly sad and poetic story. An exiled lord, he was a loyal and dedicated protector of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), who put his life on the line time and time again for her. He helped her adjust to her new life as a Dothraki. He ensured she was protected. And he was also secretly (or not so secretly) in love with her.
He was so loyal to her, in fact, that despite the fact his initial purpose was to spy on Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd), he grew to love Daenerys so much that he gave up the opportunity for a royal pardon in order to stay with her instead of going back to Westeros.

Game of Thrones: Most Memorable Character Deaths in the HBO Series, Ranked
From emotional to well-deserved, these are the most memorable Game of Thrones character deaths in the HBO series.
Even when she discovered his initial intentions and banished him, Jorah did whatever he could to get back to her. This led to him developing the deadly disease greyscale. Knowing that healing would get him back in Daenerys’ good graces, he found a cure through the acolyte Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) and was nursed back to health, where he resumed his post once again.
Now back in her service, Jorah showed once again how valiant a man he was by protecting Daenerys during the Battle of Winterfell. It’s in this fight that he died protecting his queen from certain death, another sacrificial death for a woman he loved.
How His ‘Silo’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ Characters Compare
Both these characters portrayed by Iain Glen are honorable men who once did dishonorable things but more than paid penance for their sins. They love an important woman in their lives, albeit a different kind of love in each of the two cases. The characters are both soft-spoken yet possess skills that make them assets to those for whom they work. They have a strong moral compass, a deep care for people, and a desire to protect them.
Most notable, however, is that both characters perish in a way that makes fans saddened by their passing. With Jorah, he stepped right into death to ensure that his queen would live. With Pete, he had a feeling his daughter might still be alive. And his desire to protect her was greater than his want to see her if she was.
He knew he had a greater cause; this was what Juliette would have wanted, and she would have done the same thing if she were in his position. Pete more than proved his love for his daughter and his allegiance to the people of the silo over the order of the silo with this decision. It’s something Juliette will surely have to reconcile with once she learns of his death.

[SPOILER] Didn’t Have to Die in ‘Silo,’ But His Death Will Fuel What’s to Come
With Juliette going outside and failing to clean in ‘Silo,’ it’s evident that there will be some fallout. Sadly, that means the first life lost.
Glen, a Scottish actor, plays these likable yet tortured tragic hero characters so well. He even portrayed the superhero alter-ego Bruce Wayne in the TV series Titans. However, Glen has also played unlikable characters, including Manfred Powell in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Sir Richard Carlisle in Downton Abbey. He has also appeared on stage as the title character in Shakespearean plays like Hamlet, Macbeth, and Henry V.
Of the death of Jorah Morment, Glen told Entertainment Weekly that it was a “heroic and satisfying demise…[he] got complete forgiveness and then went out the way he wanted to. I die saving her life and I’ve said that for a good few seasons, the nobility of the man is very much within him and he would absolutely sacrifice his life for her to succeed. In a way, he was given the conclusion he wanted.”
While Glen has not yet spoken on the death of his character of Dr. Pete Nichols in Silo, chances are he feels much the same way about this character. He lived many years with deep regret about what happened with his wife and how things ended with his daughter. He missed so much time and tried to make up for it with Juliette as an adult. His manner of death was a final love letter to the daughter he didn’t get to know the way he should have but who inspired him to finally do the right thing. In this respect, it was a beautiful moment. But it’s a death fans will have a tough time getting over, especially as it brings back memories of the time the same actor died in such a similarly noble way before. Stream Silo on Apple TV+.
