Sharon Stone didn’t waste her opportunity, nor mince words, while making a stop in Turin, Italy, as she blamed “uneducated” and “ignorant” Americans for Donald Trump’s election as the 47th President of the United States. During her appearance on the panel to speak with the press, at the Torino Film Festival (TFF), Stone was asked to address the problem of violence against women. And that’s when the actress and Kamala Harris supporter appeared to be calling out certain U.S. voters for President-elect Trump’s victory. Stone said in her interview (per TornoFilmFestival):
“We have to stop and think about who we choose for government and if, in fact, we are actually choosing our government or if the government is choosing itself. You know, Italy has seen fascism. Italy has seen these things. You guys, you understand what happens. You have seen this before.”
Stone, who’s arguably best-known for her breakout role in Basic Instinct (1992), and who was nominated for the Best Actress in a Leading Role Oscar thanks to portraying Ginger McKenna in 1995’s Casino, continued her interview at TFF by saying:
“My country is in the midst of adolescence. Adolescence is very arrogant. Adolescence thinks it knows everything. Adolescence is naive and ignorant and arrogant. And we are in our ignorant, arrogant adolescence. We haven’t seen this before in our country. Americans who don’t travel, who 80% don’t have a passport, who are uneducated, are in their extraordinary naïveté. What I can say is that the only way that we can help with these issues is to help each other.”
Sharon Stone Was Already Contemplating Leaving the United States Before Trump’s Win
Donald Trump handily defeated Kamala Harris to win the 2024 Presidential Election (312 to 226 electoral votes). But when Trump was elected to become the 47th President of the United States, Hollywood was surprised by the results. And Sharon Stone herself was already talking about leaving the country to live abroad should Trump claim victory. Stone said in an interview with the United Kingdom’s Daily Mail back in July:
I am certainly considering a house in Italy. I think that’s an intelligent construct at this time. This is one of the first times in my life that I’ve actually seen anyone running for office on a platform of hate and oppression.
The Basic Instinct, Casino, and Broken Flowers star isn’t alone, though. In fact, many Americans were in the same boat as Stone. Full disclosure: 2024’s Presidential election was much closer than Trump’s 86 electoral-vote edge previously indicated. In a new article posted by ABC News, it’s revealed that Trump only won the popular vote by a mere 1.6 points, dispelling the notion that the President-elect prevailed by a “landslide.” Nevertheless, Stone may still relocate, according to an unnamed source, who also spoke to the Daily Mail. Stone’s “friend” said:
“Sharon has a really beautiful home with her children in Beverly Hills, but I know that she did look in Antibes. That was a few years ago but she did not pull the trigger on it. It’s fair to say that she is thinking about it again. I would say that France is still more likely than Italy.”
