Senne Lammens: United ace gives verdict on Old Trafford atmosphere – Man United News And Transfer News

Senne Lammens has quietly been one of Manchester United’s most influential players this season. After two years of Andre Onana making headlines for the wrong reasons, the Belgian has been a breath of fresh air for fans.

Lammens’ assured presence between the sticks, especially during set pieces, and his shot-stopping abilities have instilled a calm among the Old Trafford faithful that has been missing for a while. The Red Devils signed the 23 year old from Royal Antwerp last summer as an upgrade on Onana, who had failed to convince following a series of costly mistakes during his two-season spell at the Theatre of Dreams.

Lammens was given time to acclimatise to the rigours of the Premier League before earning his debut against Sunderland last October. The goalkeeper marked the occasion with a clean sheet and has not looked back since.

Indispensable for United this season

Lammens has started every game for United since his debut, registering three clean sheets from 17 league games, while conceding 23 goals.

Lammens was particularly crucial in the 2-0 home win against Manchester City at Old Trafford this month, which was caretaker manager Michael Carrick’s first game in charge. Last weekend, the Belgian also played a key role in the Red Devils’ hard-fought 3-2 win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

The player’s efforts have already endeared him to fans, and he has now paid tribute to the atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams.

Best he has experienced so far

Speaking to the club’s website, Lammens insisted that the atmosphere at Old Trafford in the win over City was one of the best he had experienced in his career. He said: “Yeah [the atmosphere was the best]. I think it has to be one of the best, if not the best games I’ve been part of, just in every facet.”

“Like defending, attacking, the amount of chances we created, not giving away any chances. I thought it was really something that Saturday, so we hope we can do it like almost every home game, to be honest.”

“The things you heard, like from the years past in Manchester, you think that you hope you can experience those nights. And I think that Saturday was one of them. So you try to, in the future, get as many of those nights as possible and then, hopefully, get some trophies.”

Leeds regret

The Belgian also shed light on his experience at Elland Road in the 1-1 draw against Leeds United earlier this month, stating: “It was quite hostile [at Leeds], to be honest. So, it was also a special game, just too bad we couldn’t come away with the three points. It was a really nice game to play in and good experience for me, as well, to get into those games.”

“I think, if you can get your performance in and just stay the same way as you did, like playing at home, I think it’s a good lesson to learn as a young goalkeeper. And, if you know you can do it, then you can do it almost everywhere. So, yeah, it’s nice to know as well.”

United next face Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday, 1 February, and one can expect the Theatre of Dreams to come to life once again for the game.

Final Thoughts

While Lammens is still a young goalkeeper, he has already displayed maturity beyond his years and is expected to get better with experience. With the talented Radek Vitek impressing out on loan at Bristol City, it appears that United’s goalkeeping department is sorted for the next decade.
