Jean Grey’s on-screen appearances have often suffered from existing in less expansive franchises than the MCU itself. While the Fox X-Men movies did a solid job of showing Jean’s powers off, the character ultimately often serves as more of a plot device than a living, breathing person in more than one installment, both due to time constraints and due to perhaps too much focus being on Jean’s abilities versus showcasing her personality.

The MCU has certainly been guilty of doing the same with some figures in its past, but the development of its approach with Scarlet Witch and many other characters has seen a sense of nuance be developed when it comes to ensuring a balance between demonstrating an individual’s powers, and showing them as a three-dimensional, engaging figure in their own right.

With the MCU seemingly being set to continue for many years to come – and to do so potentially with the X-Men at the franchise’s helm – the prospect of Jean Grey appearing soon in the franchise is a decidedly exciting one, whether the character ends up being played by Sadie Sink, or by someone else later down the line.
