Sebastian Stan has made some startling transformations in order to embody some extraordinary characters, and now the acting chameleon is doing it again for his new movie, Fjord. Romanian director Cristian Mungiu helms one of the most anticipated international movies of the year, and a new image from the feature has given audiences a look at a unrecognizable Stan along with Renate Reinsve and their on-screen children.
Fjord follows the Gheorghiu family – Romanian father (Stan), Norwegian mother (Reinsve) – as they settle into new life in a remote Norwegian village, the mother’s birthplace. They quickly bond with the Halbergs, who live in the neighboring house near the bay and despite their very different upbringings, the children of both families soon become close friends. When the Gheorghius are suspected of disturbing behavior, their lives are thrown into chaos as they become the center of small town scrutiny.
Mungiu’s previous work included his Palme d’Or-winning “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,” and his new movie wrapped production in late 2025, and has been picked up by Neon for distribution. This will be his sixth movie as director, but the true story will be very different, with the director’s previous work being mostly set in Romania. You can see the first look at the movie below.
Sebastian Stan Has Become a Master Character Actor
While part of being an actor is unavoidably playing various characters – unless you happen to be one of those lucky ones who play the same character whatever movie they appear in – Sebastian Stan has thrown himself into some interesting and transformative roles in the last several years.
While Stan’s career obviously received a huge boost from his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has proven many times over just how good an actor he is. This has become incredibly apparent in the last several years, from his deranged role in horror movie Fresh and his wild turn as rock star Tommy Lee in Pam & Tommy, to his prosthetic-heavy part of a man with neurofibromatosis in A Different Man and his truly terrifying transformation into Donald Trump for The Apprentice – terrifying for how good and convincing he was as the future president.
Last year, he returned to the MCU with a brief cameo in Captain America: Brave New World before becoming part of the “New Avengers” in Thunderbolts. He will next appear in this December’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Fjord looks like it will be his next movie to hit cinemas, but so far, has not been given a release date. With filming completing last year, it is possible we will see the film land in cinemas before the end of 2026.
