‘Scream 7’ Gets Franchise’s First IMAX Release in Super Bowl Trailer

‘Scream 7’ Gets Franchise’s First IMAX Release in Super Bowl Trailer

Scream 7 is heading to theaters this February, and the latest trailer is teasing something the horror franchise has never done. The slasher sequel features the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, along with Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, and even Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher. The other cast includes Anna Camp, Joel McHale, McKenna Grace, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, with franchise scribe Kevin Williamson penning the script for the latest installment and directing.

Trailers have already highlighted that Scream 7 focuses on Sidney and her daughter, Tatum, played by Isabel May. The killer in the latest sequel will turn out to be the biggest reveal, with many speculating that Stu is involved, and the movie even teases his time in a mental health facility following the events of the first film. Still, the killer seems to have been planning their spree for some time, with Scream 7 building stakes by letting fans know that everything in the franchise has been leading up to this killer’s plan andidentity. The synopsis shared by Paramount Pictures with the new Scream 7 “Big Game Spot” trailer on YouTube reads:

When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.

Beyond teasing what fans can expect in the next slasher installment, the latest TV spot for Scream 7 also notes that the horror movie will be getting an IMAX release. The franchise’s IMAX debut is a first for the long-running horror series. While the seventh movie in the series is promising to be bigger and better than everything that came before, there’s no better way to deliver that to fans than on IMAX screens, with the sequel scheduled for release on Feb. 27.

‘Scream 7’ Isn’t Playing by the Rules

Scream 7 is already teasing the stakes of the next film, as it’s not just Sidney anymore, with the plot seeing her shift into protective mother mode. While this could be seen as an opportunity to pass the torch to Sidney’s daughter as the new lead, it may simply be to heighten the stakes. Still, the franchise seems to be keeping things fresh seven movies in, as it is now attempting to explain Stu’s presence, since he seemed quite dead in his last franchise appearance. Stu could play into factors like Billy Loomis’ presence in the previous two Scream movies, but many believe Stu could be the killer, or even a Hannibal Lecter type, helping solve the case.

The latest Scream film also looks to be keeping things well under wraps, but it also has plenty of new characters to delve into, like Camp and Grace, who are new additions. The movies follow a set of horror rules that Williamson both defined and broke with the original. Scream 7 is breaking every rule in the book, as the changing landscape of horror has seen the recent entries attempting to do, with genuine success. Fans will finally get to see just how far Scream 7 goes when it hits theaters later this month.
