Paramount+’s supernatural teen drama series, School Spirits, is coming back to screens with its third season on January 28, 2026. The surprising date reveal came at this year’s CCXP in Brazil, where star and executive producer Payton List shared the three-episode premiere date as well as the first trailer for the new season.
Season 3 of the supernatural high school series plunges Maddie Nears (List) and her friends into a deeper, darker mystery as the veil between worlds grows dangerously thin, delivering twists that challenge everything they thought they knew.
School Spirits also stars Spencer MacPherson, Kiara Pichardo, Sarah Yarkin, Nick Pugliese, Rainbow Wedell, Josh Zuckerman, Ci Hang Ma, Miles Elliot and Milo Manheim, with Season 3 newcomers including Jennifer Tilly, Ari Dalbert and Erika Swayze. Other recurring stars include Maria Dizzia, Patrick Gilmore, Alex Zahara, Ian Tracey, Jess Gabor and Zack Calderon. The series synopsis reads:
“Maddie is a teen girl stuck in the afterlife investigating her own mysterious disappearance; she goes on a crime-solving journey as she adjusts to school in the afterlife, but the closer she gets to the truth, the more secrets and lies she discovers.”
‘School Spirits’ Has Been a Huge Hit, but No One Talks About It
While headlines about Paramount+ are usually based on what Taylor Sheridan may or may not be doing next with one of his several big series, Season 2 of School Spirits was watched by 3.9 million viewers in its first 28 days on the platform, almost double the viewership of the show’s first season. The show gained a massive boost from having the first season play on Netflix before its second debuted. When announcing Season 3’s renewal, Shauna Phelan, Head of Live Action Scripted Series and Film for Awesomeness and Nickelodeon, said:
“We are so thrilled to bring School Spirits back to our devoted audiences for another season of masterful storytelling brought to life by Peyton List and the incredible cast. Co-showrunners Oliver Goldstick, Nate Trinrud and Megan Trinrud have an exceptional ability to capture the complexity and nuance of the teen experience, while also keeping audiences on their toes with the unexpected mystery, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the students of Split River High next season.”
What is more, the second season massively improved in its reviews, leaping from a critics’ score of 83% to 100% between its first two seasons. While Season 1 scored highly with audiences (90%) its second season improved to 95%. This means there is a lot of expectation for the series to continue to deliver something special in Season 3 that will maintain a high standard. With many calling Season 2 “absolutely amazing” and “incredible,” it seems that the series has found its feet and can only continue to grow with its new episodes starting next month.
