Sandro Tonali has been simply incredible this season, quickly standing out as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League.
His quality in possession, touch and ball striking is a joy to watch, but mix that with his incredible engine, pace and reading of the game and you have one hell of an all-round player.
He’s a contender for our player of the season, and with that comes interest from elsewhere, with the Italian media constantly linking the former AC Milan star with a return to Serie A.
With this and links to other European giants in mind, an update on his future has arrived on Tuesday afternoon…
It looks like Sandro Tonali is going absolutely nowhere this summer.
According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Tonali has ‘made it clear’ he wants to stay at Newcastle United long-term and played down talk of a potential return to Italy.
The report also states that the 24-year-old wants to give back to the fans, Eddie Howe and the club for the love and support sent his way during his 10-month ban for breaching gambling rules.
Newcastle want to ‘build around’ the midfielder, who ‘loves’ player under Howe and is settled in the North East.
Juventus have been linked with a move, but Newcastle are adamant that no Serie A side would have the funds required to afford Tonali. Man City and Real Madrid’s interest has also been touted, although Newcastle are convinced he wants to stay and have zero interest in allowing him to leave.
The Telegraph report that we’ve identified three priority positions to recruit in, with a right-sided centre-back, right winger and goalkeeper identified.
However, the club will also look to sign another striker, realising the need to add depth as 33-year-old Callum Wilson faces the prospect of leaving on a free this summer.
Not only are the club planning to invest, they fully intend to keep Alexander Isak at the club, with contract talks scheduled over a new improved deal.
The club are ‘relaxed’ about his future, knowing he has three years left on his deal. It’s believed chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has also instructed the club to reject all interest in the Swede, signalling our intent.
