Ruben Amorim reveals defining ingredient behind Man United’s triumph vs. Liverpool – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has revealed the catalyst behind his side’s incredible 2-1 victory against bitter rivals Liverpool.

United secure all three points vs. Liverpool

United went into the Liverpool clash full of belief after their 2-0 victory over Sunderland before the October international break, though optimism was tempered by the club’s poor recent record at Anfield.

The Red Devils had last won at Liverpool in 2016.

United needed just two minutes to take the lead, as Bryan Mbeumo got on the end of a sublime pass from Amad to produce a calm and composed finish.

Liverpool stepped up the ante in search of an equaliser but United’s stubborn defence had an answer for nearly everything that was thrown at them.

The hosts only managed to draw level in the 78th minute courtesy of Cody Gakpo. However, United quickly regained the lead when Harry Maguire rose highest to nod in a superb cross from captain Bruno Fernandes.

The win marked Amorim’s first set of back-to-back Premier League victories since taking charge as head coach almost a year ago.

After the final whistle, Amorim spoke to Sky Sports and labelled the triumph as perhaps his biggest and best one yet at the club.

He also revealed that the secret to their success lay in excelling at set pieces and ‘blocking well’ early on, thanks to the guidance of the more experienced players.

Amorim told Sky [as quoted by BBC], “I think that was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United. It means a lot today but tomorrow it won’t mean a lot. It’s three points and it’s a good victory.”

“We fought for every ball, we lost our composure in the second half but the spirit was there and that is the most important thing, if you have the spirit you can win any game.”

“It was a good day and now I am concerned about Brighton. I will enjoy it but let’s focus on Brighton.”

Asked what went well, the Portuguese coach answered, “We just saw the game and knew how important our set pieces are and the guys that have more experiences are on in the beginning.”

“Every time we play in this environment well if you block well in the beginning you can feel the defence turning and we feel that in our stadium and all the big teams feel that. A good win.”

He added, “It will give us more confidence through the week and pleasure to our fans, they deserve it and that is in our hands.”

“This is in the past now it’s time to look at the future.”

United have now moved up to ninth place in the Premier League table.
