Ronaldo buys 25% of Spain’s UD Almería

February 27 – Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he is now the proud owner of a 25% stake in UD Almería, the Saudi-owned Spanish second-division side. The investment has been made through his CR7 Sports Investments platform.

“This strategic investment in UD Almería reflects Ronaldo’s long-term commitment to professional football ownership,” the company said, without disclosing financial terms.
“It has been a long-time ambition of mine to contribute to football,” Ronaldo added. “I look forward to working alongside the leadership team to support the club’s next phase of growth.”

Almería, owned by Saudi group SMC, was relegated from La Liga in 2024, but this season they are pushing hard for promotion to Spain’s top division, La Liga. Currently, the club sits just a point off the automatic promotion places.

Club president Mohamed al-Khereiji said that Ronaldo’s influence extends beyond playing. “He is considered the best on the pitch,” al-Khereiji said. “He knows the Spanish leagues very well and understands the potential of what we are building.”

In Ronaldo’s case, the financial backdrop is significant. Since joining Al-Nassr in 2023 and becoming the face of the Saudi Pro League’s global push, his wealth has soared into a completely new bracket. Last October, he became the first active footballer to be included in the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
