Returning X-Men Star Hypes ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Avengers: Doomsday is still more than 10 months away, but many of the actors set to be involved in the ensemble December release have been constantly questioned about it since the elaborate “chair-reveal” of which stars would be appearing in the film. Recently, it was the turn of returning X-Men star James Marsden to address Doomsday with all the usual caveats of having Kevin Feige’s own SAS team on standby if anyone says something they shouldn’t.

During an appearance at Apple TV’s reveal of their 2026 slate, Marden, who plays Cyclops in the original X-Men movies, explained that Avengers: Doomsday is exactly what fans have been asking for since the Multiverse Saga began. He told Entertainment Tonight:

“Yeah, of course [fans will be pleased]. I’ve also been trained not to speak about this particular project. Of course you can count on being blown away and seeing so many new things. They just continue to – the Russo brothers – upping the ante. And Marvel just giving everybody what they want.”

During the last weeks of December and first of January, Marvel Studios released four short clips in cinemas that acted as windows into the events of Avengers: Doomsday. While these clips are teasers, the Russos also called them clues, and referred to them as stories. Obviously, the MCU’s multiverse is made up of many stories, as has been made clear by the animated series What If…? Now, Loki sits holding together these different stories, keeping them from colliding and destroying the multiverse. The question is, for how much longer.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Will Bring Together Many Strands of the MCU Multiverse

While there is still nothing much more than speculation to go on when it comes to working out exactly what Doomsday’s plot will be focused on, it has been clear that this is a movie that will not only quench the thirst of those who have demanded more multiverse in their Multiverse Saga but also bring many lost Marvel stories to a real and final ending.

The teasers for Doomsday have been pretty bleak in their outlook of what the MCU will look like on the other side, and it is clear that for a lot of characters, this could be a last huzzah. That is especially true of returning legacy characters, such as the original X-Men and potentially others that have not yet been confirmed. In many ways, Doomsday and Secret Wars should be the moment Marvel Studios take stock and bring about the kind of reset Avengers: Endgame should have provided.

Although Marvel Studios is already planning its next “saga,” there is a lot of expectation resting on the shoulders of the next run of MCU movies. Strangely, no one seems that worried about how they will perform at all.
