Fermin Lopez made his much-awaited comeback to the pitch against Girona by replacing Toni Fernandez at half-time.

The Spaniard immediately added more zest and directness to the Barcelona attack and tried his best to get his team in front against a gritty Girona defence.

Although Fermin was unable to find the back of the net, Barcelona were able to secure three points thanks to a late winner from Ronald Araujo.

Speaking to the media after the game, Fermin talked about the team’s narrow win against Girona.

What Fermin said after Barcelona’s win over Girona

The Spaniard admitted that it is important for Barcelona to win games in such a manner while also admitting that he was far from his usual best when it comes to converting chances in the final third.

“I think that sometimes such matches should be won in this way,” he said (h/t FCB World). “It was a very tough match, and I think we missed a lot of chances. And personally, I did too. It was a good match, we fought until the end and in the end we scored the goal.

Fermin did look a bit sloppy in the final third, at times. However, it was an encouraging performance heading into next weekend’s Real Madrid clash.

Reacting to the final result, Fermin talked about Barcelona’s injury crisis, which has seriously depleted the team.

“We tried until the end. It’s also true that we’re suffering from many injuries, and there are important players who have recently returned, while others are still out of the team,” he said.

“In the second half, there was some chaos in our performance, but I think we deserved to win, and we achieved it in the end,” he added.

Finally, Fermin offered an update on his own fitness, having just returned from a brief injury layoff.

“I feel a bit tired, but I’m okay. The feeling is good, and now I have to continue regaining the rhythm gradually,” he concluded.
