Federico Chiesa shared his delight to play for Liverpool and also revealed that playing at Anfield gives him the “shivers”. The 27-year-old completed the full game for the first time for the Reds against PSV Eindhoven in the 3-2 loss.
Chiesa played with several academy players and squad players in need of game time like him, against a strong opponent. In a game where the result mattered the least, Liverpool boss Arne Slot had plenty of positives including Chiesa’s overall performance.
Despite having a moment of concern with a knock when he won Liverpool the penalty in the first half, the Italy international finished the whole game. Furthermore, Chiesa never stopped working hard despite the young team’s struggle against the Eredivisie defending champions.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Chiesa revealed what it feels like to play for Liverpool at Anfield. The 27-year-old also praises the quality of his teammates and their collective determination to challenge in every competition available. He said:
“I’m playing with great players, I’m in a great team. We are so focused on every competition, we want to challenge for the title, for the Champions League, for the Carabao Cup, for the FA Cup. There is a great atmosphere and I enjoy myself here. Of course I didn’t get the chance to play for many reasons but this was my first 90 minutes for a while so I’m just happy tonight. I am just focused on that and nothing [else] but I am enjoying being at the club because Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world and the fanbase is just amazing, and playing at Anfield gives me shivers.”
Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus for a bargain price after the Italian club’s new manager Thiago Motta demanded changes. The 27-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2022 which set off a series of poor rehabilitation.
Chiesa suffered from nagging injury issues while Juventus continued to rush him back due to the importance of the Italian. Liverpool put the 27-year-old in a special programme to help him recover from past fitness issues and build his longevity.
Meanwhile, the transfer rumours inevitably used his lack of game time as a reason to create false stories. Chiesa’s interview has effectively shut down those lies about the Italian’s unhappiness at Liverpool or desire to leave.

The Reds have a formidable attacking department with only Diogo Jota struggling with constant fitness issues despite his qualities. Chiesa fits the squad perfectly with his hard-working mindset and technical qualities in attack.
