‘Resident Alien’ Canceled, Season 4 Will Be Its Last

Another day, another beloved show getting canceled. This time, the axe has fallen at USA Network, bringing to an end one of the best science fiction comedy shows currently on the air. Sadly, as is the nature of both television and streaming these days, sudden cancellations have become common place, with fans often left wondering for months at a time whether their favorite show will survive the cull. Well, unfortunately, it’s now time for fans of Alan Tudyk’s underrated sci-fi comedy Resident Alien to mourn.

Confirmed via Variety, Resident Alien has now been canceled after four seasons, with three episodes of said fourth season still set to air. While the news is sure to devastate fans, there is some positivity to cling onto, with showrunner Chris Sheridan revealing to TV Insider that they were aware Season 4 would be Resident Alien’s last, meaning the show will end, at least in part, on their terms.

“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season. Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”

Though it has more aliens and less soccer, Resident Alien is perfect for fans of Ted Lasso.

Three episodes of what is now Resident Alien’s fourth and final season still remain, and are due to air on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network and SYFY before being made available the following week on Peacock. Sheridan teased the final episode of the beloved series saying…

“It gives Resident Alien a very satisfying ending while also leaving the door cracked open for any future this world may have. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

‘Resident Alien’ Has Been Met With Rave Reviews Throughout Its Run

Created by Chris Sheridan and based on the Dark Horse comic book of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien stars Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, and Alice Wetterlund alongside Firefly and Creature Commandos star Alan Tudyk in the lead as the titular resident alien. Since beginning back in 2021, the series has been met with rave reviews from critics, with Season 1 landing a score of 94% from critics, while Season 2 achieved a perfect 100%. Season 3, meanwhile, currently stands at 91% from audiences on the Popcornmeter, with Season 4 continuing the impressive track record with another 100% from critics. “An alien crashes on Earth and hides in a remote Colorado mountain town. After assuming the identity of the town doctor, Harry Vanderspeigle, his nefarious mission to kill all humans is threatened when he realizes one of the townspeople, a 9-year-old boy, can see his true alien form. Harry starts off living a simple life, but things get a bit rocky when he’s roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world and slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth.”
