Red Dead Redemption Remake In RDR2’s Engine Is Everything We Imagined

Red Dead Redemption has finally soared to the heights of Red Dead Redemption 2 through an unofficial fan remakeproject. Red Dead Redemption 2 sets an incredibly high bar for gorgeous visuals and graphics in an open-world game, and this Red Dead Redemption ‘remake’ is making big strides toward it.

As per Desse and the PNA team on Nexus Mods, Project New Austin 1907 is reimagining the original Red Dead Redemption. So, anyone who has longed to see Red Dead Redemption look as terrific as Red Dead Redemption 2 finally has something of a ‘remake’ on their hands.

Red Dead Redemption In RDR2’s Engine Is Stunning

Taking a look at Project New Austin 1907, it’s basically impossible to say with any certainty that the unofficial remake’s gameplay isn’t from Red Dead Redemption 2. The intended goal, surely, is to blur that gap, as Project New Austin 1907 “brings back those classic RDR1 locations with added detail to match RDR2’s level of quality.”

Red Dead Redemption arguably isn’t even a bad-looking game. That said, Project New Austin 1907 goes to show that there is a large corner of Rockstar’s vocal community that is desperate to see what gameplay and visuals could be like in a remake of Red Dead Redemption that puts it on the same pedestal as its sequel.

This is the case with any photorealistic games, where new advances in technology and video game development can make previous entries in a franchise look considerably outdated, much less of a different quality, art style, or generation. Plus, since this fan project is compatible with other Red Dead Redemption visual mods, Red Dead Redemption has never looked better.

This Is A Fantastic Mod For RDR2 Fans

The Last of Us Part 1 is a remake that fundamentally updates the original game to meet the exceptional standards and quality of The Last of Us Part 2 in both its visuals and gameplay. It seems like a missed opportunity, then, for the first Red Dead Redemption game not to receive the same treatment. Thankfully, Project New Austin 1907 is basically that.

Rumors have stirred for a while now about a legitimate Red Dead Redemption remake, though many fans would likely settle for a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 patch. Until Grand Theft Auto 6 is actually released, however, fans know where Rockstar’s focus will be. Only time will tell if Red Dead Redemption will ever receive a remake of the same scope as The Last of Us Part 1, but Project New Austin 1907 is doing the job remarkably well thus far.
