Nowadays, there are so many different streaming services available that it’s impossible to use them all. Some are better than others, producing movies and television shows that garner widespread recognition at award shows. Prime Video and Peacock are two streaming services known for their original content and for having classic gems available to watch. Although both compete against each other and other streamers, such as Netflix, HBO, and even Tubi, Prime Video has announced that Peacock will be made available to Amazon Prime Video users via subscription.
Peacock is owned and operated by Comcast through its entertainment division, NBCUniversal. According to Variety, Amazon Prime Video customers can sign up for Peacock Premium Plus (which is Ad-free) for $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year. Streaming bundles are gaining popularity as companies find ways to expand access and increase viewership of their content. Apparently, Amazon and NBCU have various distribution deals, and this news is a result of that. The publication also reports that Peacock will be available for access on Amazon’s Fire TV. In addition, Universal films will be available for rent or purchase on Prime Video.
The NBCUniversal streaming service has gained popularity among sports fans, offering a wide selection of NFL games to stream. Prime Video is also a streaming service sports fans use, but to watch a few WNBA games and Thursday Night Football (the streamer holds exclusive rights to TNF). However, beyond sports, Prime Video has scored massive wins with its original content, both movies and television shows, which is something Peacock could improve on. In 2023, Prime Video had 210 million users, and that number has likely grown since then, which could be a significant boost for Peacock.
Will Peacock Joining Prime Video Be Beneficial for Users of Both?
In a statement, Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said the partnership will make it easier for users to find their entertainment and sports in one place.
At Amazon, we are always working to make customers’ lives better every day and these new agreements with Comcast NBCU are fantastic for millions of customers, who are looking for the fastest and easiest way to find all their entertainment and sports in one place. Adding Peacock to our growing list of subscriptions – while renewing our long-standing agreements for Fire TV, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and Xfinity X1 – deepens an incredible working relationship with Comcast/NBCU, and we look forward to a future of mutual distribution that benefits our shared customers.
Peacock joining forces with Prime Video could be a win for the streamers and users. While only time will tell, nothing is better than having your favorite things to watch in one place. According to Comcast president Mike Cavanagh, users can watch their favorite content however they choose:
“Millions of Amazon customers can continue to enjoy NBCUniversal’s popular shows, films, and live events on Peacock via Fire TV or through Prime Video Subscriptions, or buying or renting on Prime Video, while also accessing Amazon’s premier entertainment on Xfinity X1 — ensuring they can watch what they love, wherever and however they choose.”
