President Trump May Commute Diddy’s Prison Sentence This Week

Diddy could be a free man this week, as it’s been reported that President Donald Trump may commute his sentence. The disgraced mogul was sentenced to 50 months in prison earlier this month for transporting sex workers across state lines, violating what’s known as the Mann Act.

Diddy has already served 13 months at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, which will be credited to his prison stay, so if Trump doesn’t commute his sentence, he could be released in less than three years.

Prosecutors were looking for an 11-year sentence, and at the same time, Diddy’s lawyers sought to get him released right away, saying that his time at Metropolitan Detention Center forced him to be remorseful and drug-free for the first time in many years.

White House Staff Is Discouraging Trump From Commuting Diddy’s Sentence

Per TMZ, White House staff have been trying to talk Trump out of commuting Diddy’s sentence, but he’ll make the decision completely on his own. It’s also been reported that Diddy’s lawyers reached out to a high-ranking White House official right after the 50-month sentence came down, something that Trump already acknowledged to the press.

He spoke about the possibility of commuting Diddy’s sentence in August as well, but said it was hard for him to do since Diddy didn’t support his presidential run against Joe Biden or Kamala Harris.

“I was very friendly with him, I got along with him great, and he seemed like a nice guy. I didn’t know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile,” Trump told Newsmax.

The White House Has Already Pushed Back

If Trump does commute Diddy’s sentence, it wouldn’t be the first time that he freed someone from the hip-hop community. He pardoned NBA Youngboy earlier this year after the Baton Rouge rapper got two years for possessing firearms as a felon.

Trump also pardoned Lil Wayne’s sentence at the end of his first term after he was convicted on federal weapons charges. The president pardoned a 46-month prison sentence for Kodak Black in addition to that, when the Florida native was convicted of falsifying information on a federal gun application.

But today, Tuesday, October 21, a White House representative denied that Trump will be commuting Diddy’s sentence, telling NBC News, “There is zero truth to the TMZ report, which we would’ve gladly explained had they reached out before running their fake news. The President, not anonymous sources, is the final decider on pardons and commutations.”

As expected, Diddy’s legal team has already filed an appeal against his conviction, doing so Monday in New York. Conditions of Diddy’s post-prison stay were released last week, which includes the Bad Boy founder having to stay away from drug use and submitting to drug tests, the first one being 15 days after he’s released.

He’ll be under supervised release for a period of five years as well, and will have to attend an outpatient drug, mental health, and domestic violence program.
