Looking at this Newcastle team v Qarabag FK.
Eddie Howe’s side aiming to complete the job they started last Wednesday in Azerbaijan.
A comprehensive 6-1 victory all but putting them in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Now it is time to finish the job.
Eddie Howe looking to pick a Newcastle United team v Qarabag FK that can put United into the final 16 of this competition, whilst at the same time trying to ensure he looks after key players with such a busy schedule ahead.
As a reminder, this was the Newcastle team v Manchester City four nights ago:
Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Ramsey, Willock, Elanga, Gordon, Woltemade
In his pre-match press conference, Eddie Howe saying that Yoane Wissa and Sven Botman could potentially be in the squad for this game.
However, Eddie Howe still without Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Miley and Emil Krafth. Whilst Malick Thiaw is suspended for this match tonight.
Taking all of that into consideration…
This is my predicted Newcastle team v Qarabag FK:
Ramsdale, Trippier, Botman, Burn, Hall, Joelinton, Ramsey, Jacob Murphy, Barnes, Gordon, Woltemade
If the above ends up as the reality, it would mean five changes for Eddie Howe compared to the team that started against Manchester City.
With coming in – Ramsdale, Botman, Joelinton, Barnes, Jacob Murphy
Dropping out – Pope, Thiaw, Tonali, Elanga, Willock
I know a lot of people are assuming that the likes of Shahar and Neave could get their first starts tonight. However, I think Eddie Howe will still go with a more recognisable starting eleven.
My belief is that the United boss will be keen to give the opposition no encouragement. Looking to control the match from the start and using players he has used regularly.
Other factors as well for me, Eddie Howe keen to build on the promise of playing Woltemade in behind Gordon, whilst I have no doubt that Anthony Gordon will have made clear that he is keen to start again and add to his Champions League tally of goals.
If all is going to plan, then no doubt Eddie Howe will be intending to heavily use his subs bench as the second half progresses. Every chance that Shahar and Alex Murphy will give Trippier and Hall some minutes rest, whilst the likes of Wissa, Osula and Neave also very likely to get decent minutes.
