‘Ponies’ Season 2 Details Revealed as Series Dominates Streaming on Peacock

Emilia Clarke‘s new spy thriller Ponies has wasted no time in infiltrating the Peacock Top 10 on its debut. The show, which teams up the former Game of Thrones star with Hayley Lu Richardson as a pair of women who head deep into dangerous KGB territory as they dig into a dark conspiracy their husbands were killed for, is currently number 2 on the Peacock streaming chart behind a reality show all about devious plots and murder, The Traitors. Now, fans of the show are already asked whether there will be a Season 2, and for creators Susanna Fogel and David Iserson, the show was never planned to be a one-and-done affair.

Speaking to Collider, the creative team behind the critically praised series addressed the chances of a second season, which they admitted they are planning for even though it has not been green lit yet, and shared their plans for the series that will make fans of the series very happy. Iserson said:

“We always pitched this as an ongoing television show, which, for a while, was kind of out of vogue, but now I think it is back. We didn’t see this as a closed story from any version of it. When we approached our actors, it was hard to cast a show with famous people. It’s much easier to say, “Oh, we need to be there for six months.” So, all the actors knew that going in, and when we sold this show to Peacock, we told them the whole story, covering multiple seasons. It changed, but there are things that we will hold on to from the beginning.”

For Fogel, the secret to keeping the show running for years, and attracting the star-power they wanted for the series, is making sure things don’t get repetitive and stay fresh.

“For us, this friendship and these girls are the pleasure of the show. As David was saying, when you’re trying to entice people to sign away seven years of their life, you’re like, “I promise it’ll be worth it.” Or 12 years of your life. When you’re talking about different ways to keep a show feeling fresh, even in the spy genre, there are so many ways we could reset in future seasons. It feels like we’ve done a lot of twists and turns with Cold War stuff with the KGB. Where could they go? Do we ever have an episode where they leave Russia? They have international jobs now, so we’ve talked about doing a lot there, too.”

‘Ponies’ Season 2 Could Be Even More Complex

Ponies has received an impressive 95% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and started off with a strong 81% rating from audiences. Its performance on Peacock has suggested there should be no doubt that more seasons will follow, and Fogel knows exactly what the next chapter should deliver.

“More intrigue and more complicated loyalties. We’ve woven as tangled a web as we can, and now we want to just keep tangling it and making it more complicated. We asked the question in a very simple way at the beginning. These women are on a mission that is, on the surface, about their husbands and this mystery, but ultimately it’s about empowerment and finding themselves and finding their ability to connect to another person whom they can learn from. But then that gets turned over and over and over throughout the season, and we just want to keep on turning it.”
