PlayStation Plus’ Latest Free Game Is A Rare 10/10 That Broke Me

Yesterday saw one leaker reveal the latest batch of free games which will be arriving in the PlayStation Plus library, and alongside some well-known hits such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, there is one addition which is guaranteed to hit you in the heart.

First released back in 2024 by the creators of Gris, Neva is a puzzle-platform game which tells the story of a young woman and her wolf companion, and thanks to its stunning visuals, haunting storytelling, and fun gameplay, it cemented itself as one of my favorite games of the year. Now, it is free to play.

Neva Is Coming To PlayStation Plus

Expected to arrive in the PlayStation Plus library on 17 February and made available for Extra or Premium members, Neva will join the ranks of one of those games that may have slipped under the radar when it was first released, but definitely deserves a spot in your list of games to play in 2026.

Developed by Nómada Studio, the indie puzzle-platformer game follows the story of Alba, a young woman who must protect and raise a young wolf cub called Neva as the two battle across four seasons in a world corrupted by darkness. Throughout the seasons, Neva steadily grows from a scared and unskilled little pup into a powerful being capable of battling the darkness, and although Alba’s skills cannot be upgraded, it is Neva’s steadily growing abilities which will help you battle through each season.

As well as offering simple yet effective combat and the ability to call Neva to your aid, it is Neva’s storytelling that makes it so compelling. When your wolf pup is young, she will often run into trouble and need your aid, but as she grows into a majestic being, it is her strength that helps carry you through an ever-changing world corrupted by darkness and the beings that spill from it.

This 10/10 Game Is Devastating But Brilliant

Neva, much like Nómada Studio’s previous title Gris, is best experienced without any prior knowledge of what to expect and that is why I do not want to spoil too much here. However, if you get through this game without shedding a few tears, you are a lot stronger than me. The developers knew what they were doing when they centered an entire game around looking after a vulnerable being and making you grow alongside them. By the end of the game, Neva was the size of a direwolf and capable of defending herself, but that was still my baby!

On top of that, this is a story and love-letter to parenthood and the world itself with players expected to not only care for this being, but also fight to save the world from itself.

Whether you are fighting black, amorphic beings akin to No-Face from Spirited Away or stopping to catch your breath, calling over Neva for a cuddle underneath the slowly falling leaves of autumn, Neva will never not take your breath away and so, if you take one thing from the latest batch of PlayStation Plus additions, make sure it is this one.
