Player involved in ‘fiery talks’ to push through move to Newcastle – BBC Sport

Player involved in ‘fiery talks’ to push through move to Newcastle – BBC Sport

Newcastle’s search for at least one striker rumbles on, with a breakthrough needed soon if we’re to land a number of new signings before the new season.

Benjamin Sesko appears to be our leading target to replace Alexander Isak, should he leave, with Nicolas Jackson and Ollie Watkins also linked today.

But another name that’s been tipped to arrive for weeks in Callum Wilson’s place is Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

Earlier today, Sky Sports revealed that Newcastle had been told to up their offer ‘significantly’ or walk away, with the Bees having no interest in our £25m and £35m proposals so far.

Wissa s thought to be very keen on the move – reports say he wants ‘only Newcastle’ – and BBC Sport have issued a Saturday night update on the deal.

Chief writer Sami Mokbel reveals that the 28-year-old has been involved in ‘fiery talks’ with Brentford director of football Phil Giles, feeling the club are pricing him out of a move.

BBC Sport even claim Wissa has ‘threatened to not to play for club again’ if they don’t let him move to Newcastle, feeling Brentford are going back on an agreement to let him go if a suitable offer comes in.

It’s also reported that Giles and recruitment assistant Andy Howe held further talks ‘over the last 24 hours’, although the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement.

So, it seems all parties are digging in. Wissa is desperate to sign, Brentford are determined to demand a big fee and Newcastle appear reluctant to pay much more than £35m for a player turning 29 soon.
