Prime Video‘s perfect Kratos casting for its take on God of War perfectly paves the way for the show to find the right casting choice for Thor.
Since Prime Video’s God of War is focusing on the Norse saga from the games, it will be featuring a shorter version of Kratos. Despite being close to 6 feet 4 inches in the game, Kratos seems incredibly small in statute compared to Tyr and Thor. The show will have to give audiences a similar depiction of Kratos’ relative physical presence.
To achieve this, though, Prime Video’s God of War must be careful about who it casts as Thor and Tyr. After Ryan Hurst’s casting as Kratos, one actor seems perfect for the role of Thor.
After Ryan Hurst, Prime Video Should Cast Another Legacy Actor From The God Of War Games
Ryan Hurst, who voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarök, has now been cast to play Kratos in Prime Video’s live-action adaptation. Given how Christopher Judge was the voice behind Kratos in the games, it would make sense if he, like Hurst, gets a role reversal in the live-action show and gets to play Thor this time.
While it seems unlikely that this will happen, Judge’s understanding of the franchise and ability to portray imposing godly figures can benefit the series. Since fans of the games are already rejoicing Ryan Hurst’s casting, they would likely be even happier if Christopher Judge also ends up joining the show’s cast as Thor.
In Terms Of Sheer Size, A Rising Action Star Should Play Thor In God Of War
Thor towers above Kratos in God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarök. While Kratos is close to 6 feet 4 inches in the games (same as Ryan Hurst), Thor is above 7 feet tall. An actor like Olivier Richters, who stands at 7 feet 2 inches, would be perfect for the role in terms of physical appearance. Richters has been rising in fame lately because of his roles in Reacher and 2026’s Street Fighter.
With his growing experience as an actor, he seems to be prepared to take on a more complex role in the upcoming God of War adaptation.
Who Else Could Play Thor In Prime Video’s God Of War?
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who plays “The Mountain” in Game of Thrones, also seems to have the perfect powerlifter physique that aligns with that of Thor in the games. He is also closer to 6 feet 8 inches tall, making him significantly taller than the game’s Kratos and Ryan Hurst.
Rumors also suggest that Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, of Severance‘s fame, might land the part. The actor stands at 6 feet 5 inches, and, as his performance in the Apple TV sci-fi show reveals, he has the range and acting chops to get Thor right on the small screen.
Regardless of who ends up playing Thor in Prime Video‘s God of War, it seems like the show’s creators will end up making the correct casting choice for the role considering how they got Kratos right by making Ryan Hurst play him.
