Peacemaker Season 2 is already over halfway complete, but the best has yet to be released. As teased by James Gunn since before the show’s premiere, the final three episodes of the long-awaited season contain some of his favorite work yet. In fact, the episodes were kept away from the press in an effort to avoid spoilers from leaking. As fans speculate major cameos are on the way, one of the show’s stars confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will impact the DCU in a major way.
While on the Phase Hero podcast, Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland confirmed that “a lot is revealed” in the next three episodes of Season 2 that will have consequences for the DCU moving forward. It’s unclear what exactly could be significant enough to permeate through the cinematic universe, but it’s safe to say that the rest of the HBO Max series will be a must-watch for DCU fans. The latest episode ended with Christopher Smith (John Cena) moving to the alternate universe, abandoning his found family in the main timeline. It seems that whatever is revealed about the new dimension could be the culprit, but the possibilities are still wide open with Holland’s cryptic tease.
“A lot happens, a lot is revealed. It has a lot of consequences for the future of the DC Universe… The next three episodes are pretty wild.”
Ever since the first episode, fans have been speculating about the sinister nature of the universe Peacemaker now finds himself in. Subtle hints throughout the series thus far point towards an alternate reality, normally referred to as Earth X, in which the Nazis won World War II. It’s probably not a coincidence that eagle-eyed fans spotted an ashtray that appeared to be in the shape of a swastika in the lavish home of the Smith family. Until the remaining three episodes reveal the truth, this will simply remain speculation. But the pieces are out there, it’s just a matter of time until Peacemaker puts them together for the audience.
James Gunn Secretly Recast a ‘Peacemaker’ Actor in Season 2
James Gunn recently revealed that one of the new additions in Peacemaker Season 2 was actually recast after the original actor had filmed some of their scenes. As viewers are well aware, Michael Rooker plays Red St. Wild, an eagle hunter who is hired by A.R.G.U.S. to track down Peacemaker’s pet sidekick, Eagly. However, before Rooker was hired for the job, another actor had taken on the role. It was only during production that Gunn decided to move in another direction and call up his longtime friend and collaborator.
“Last season, we talked a lot about how we recast Vigilante. Well, we recast the character of Red St. Wild. He was another actor, he was a very talented actor, great guy. It just didn’t work out for various reasons. And so after we had shot most of his scenes, I called up my friend Michael Rooker. I said, I want you to come in and maybe, you know, do this role for us. He said, how much money? I said, you’ll actually have to pay us. And he agreed to come in.”
It’s unclear who was originally set to play Red St. Wild, but this is not the first time that Gunn changed a key casting late into production. While shooting Peacemaker Season 1, Gunn famously shot five and a half episodes with Chris Conrad as Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante. It was only deep into filming that Conrad exited the project due to creative differences. Instead, Freddie Stroma took on the role, who has now become a fan-favorite in the popular superhero series. Recasting a key actor during production may be a rare occurrence, but it is hard to argue against Gunn’s decisions thus far.
