Patti LuPone Dashes ‘Agatha All Along’ Season 2 Hopes

Patti LuPone Dashes ‘Agatha All Along’ Season 2 Hopes

Agatha All Along was a fan-favorite series from start to finish — thanks to its unique story, spellbinding cast, and careful integration of comic-book lore. Despite the rave reviews that this delightfully witchy MCU installment received, however, Lilia Calderu actress Patti LuPone has revealed the devastating news that Agatha All Along will not be returning for a second season.

With the incredible reception and high viewing numbers for Agatha All Along, many fans assumed that the show was likely to continue. However, when appearing on the podcast series Andy Cohen Live, LuPone officially shut down these hopes, saying that showrunner Jac Schaeffer herself informed LuPone that Agatha All Along would remain a one-hit wonder. “Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer, and she said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,'” recalled LuPone, “and I went, ‘But I wanted a second season.'”

This isn’t the first time that Schaeffer has pulled the plug on a beloved MCU television series, despite avid calls for renewal. WandaVision was another one of her creations that captured fans’ hearts in just one season, and although the show’s star, Wanda Maximoff, will almost certainly return in some shape or form during future Vision-related MCU projects, the story of WandaVision itself is a closed chapter. For better or worse, this seems to be Schaeffer’s style — at least according to LuPone, who described Schaeffer’s preference for single-season shows.

She said, ‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-offs, and I’m really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she’s magic.

‘Agatha All Along’ May Be Finished, But What About Its Surviving Characters?

Agatha All Along certainly racked up an impressive kill count over the course of its nine episodes, but there are still a few members of the main cast who managed to survive (whether corporeally or otherwise). And although the series itself has seemingly come to an end, one of the best things about the MCU is the intricacy and inter-connectivity of the stories that are told. Characters simply aren’t limited to their own shows — meaning that Billy Maximoff and Agatha are likely to return as a supernatural duo in another piece of Marvel media. The most probable guess is Vision Quest, the WandaVision spin-off that will finally reveal what happens to everyone’s favorite android after his memories are restored.

Of course, with all the moving and shaking Marvel properties seem to do, maybe Billy and Agatha will show up in one of the forthcoming movies, too? After all, anything is possible in the MCU. (Especially these days.)

Despite Agatha All Along’s Jac Schaeffer writing post-credit scenes, Marvel decided to forgo them for the supernatural MCU series.

As for LuPone, although she won’t be returning to the Agatha All Along universe or any of its spin-offs, she does have plenty of upcoming projects. The esteemed and iconic actress and singer — perhaps most known for her work on the stages of Broadway, for which she has won numerous Tony Awards for various and iconic roles — is set to appear as an unconfirmed character in season three of the Sex and the City sequel, And Just Like That, and will also star opposite Mandy Patinkin in The Artist, a limited series murder mystery that will premiere in March 2025.
