Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Rafael Leao, Cole Palmer and Axel Disasi that you may have missed…
There has been some big news for Chelsea, as reports this weekend have claimed that Manchester United have decided that they will not make a move to try and sign attacker Cole Palmer, a player they have been linked with in recent days.
The 23-year-old scored 27 times in his first season at Stamford Bridge, hitting 18 during the 2024-25 campaign but has struggled to reach those heights this term.
While a chronic groin problem and a freak toe injury limited him to just three appearances before December, CHELSEA are still carefully managing Palmer’s workload having also picked up a minor thigh problem following Liam Rosenior’s appointment.
But over the past few weeks, there has been alot of speculation in the media that Chelsea will be open to letting Palmer leave the club, and although he has a massive contract, United have been tipped to make an offer and try to get a transfer deal done.
However – reports have claimed Manchester United bosses know the England and Chelsea star is out of the club’s price range while an attacking midfielder is not on the club’s list of priorities when it comes to strengthening the team.
United have invested almost £135m in signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, and believe this is an area of the team which doesn’t need attention.
While Manchester United could decide to spend whatever it takes to keep Bruno Fernandes on an extended deal. It’s understood co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has held talks with CEO Omar Berrada about potential targets and the duo have made it their mission to bring in a world class defensive midfielder, to replace the outgoing Casemiro
But amid all the speculation and rumours, pundit Paul Merson claimed an offer of £120million would see his club happily cash in: ‘Liam Rosenior is looking after Cole Palmer quite well. But when Palmer scored the penalty against Brentford last week, I thought his celebration was a bit strange,’ Merson wrote for Sportskeeda.
‘Call me a cynic, but I noticed how he didn’t celebrate with his teammates or the fans. That was strange for me.
‘CHELSEA must keep Palmer happy. But I’ve always said it, if some other club offers £120 million for Palmer, Chelsea will sell him. That is what Chelsea always do in the transfer market.
‘I’m also not happy about Chelsea playing Palmer on the right. He needs to play as a no.10 with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez or Reece James behind him. Just give him a free role.
‘When Palmer plays on the right, he’s too easy to pick up. We saw that when he went up against Antonee Robinson during the Fulham game. So why put him there?
‘It will be interesting to see what happens with Palmer in the future amid rumours of a move away from Chelsea.’
DISASI UPDATE
Blues boss Liam Rosenior has admitted that Axel Disasi is free to leave the club this transfer window, if Chelsea and the player get an offer that is welcomed by everyone.
The transfer window has been open for a few weeks now, there has been alot of transfer rumours regarding CHELSEA and who they could acquire, but despite all the speculation, it has been a pretty boring window for Blues fans to witness.
There has been more players leave the club than come in, and with only a few days left of the transfer window left, the Blues are still working hard on getting some of the fringe players in the side out of the club before the deadline closes on Monday.
WHAT IS THE LATEST WITH DISASI?
Despite having all the attributes to be a massive player for the Blues, the big man has not played for Chelsea at all this term after being frozen out by ex-boss Enzo Maresca, who was let go by CHELSEA right at the beginning of the transfer window.
He was reintegrated into first-team training by Liam Rosenior but still looks set to leave the club, and reports have claimed that Chelsea and Fiorentina have held talks over a possible deal to take the defender to Italian football on loan until the end of the season.
WHAT HAS ROSENIOR SAID?
“For Axel, I’m delighted [he’s training],” Rosenior said. “I don’t like the term ‘bomb squad’. They’re human beings. If anything comes up that works for Axel, great.”
Quizzed whether anything was imminent on a Disasi departure, he said: “Not at the moment.”
SHOULD DISASI LEAVE CHELSEA?
Look, it is obvious that CHELSEA have some defensive issues at the back that need to be solved, and it is pretty obvious that Disasi is not the player to help ease those issues, and that is why he should leave Chelsea.
He may want to stay in the Premier League, there may be an opportunity or two, but the Italians would be a great move to make and he would get some valuable minutes to impress and possibly attract a few more clubs for the summer window.
It could be foolish to stay put that is for sure.
RAFA LEAO BOOST
The likes of Chelsea are on alert amid reports that AC Milan are open to cashing in on Rafael Leao when the summer transfer window opens up in just a few months time.
But there is already talk about the type of players that Chelsea could look to sign at the end of the season, and there has already been some names linked with the club that could get many Blues fans excited.
WHAT IS THE LATEST WITH RAFAEL LEAO?
According to the Daily Mail, CHELSEA are looking to strengthen on the left wing and the Portugal international has been cited as a potential option with a price tag of around £80million.
Leao is one of the most highly-prized wingers in European football, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal just three clubs that have been keeping a close eye on him over the past few seasons.
The reports claim that Milan are looking to cash in on Leao at the end of the season if order to raise some funds and freshen up the side in order to start really competing for that Seria A title and Champions League crown, and £80 million would go along way into freshening up the side.
COULD CHELSEA SIGN LEAO?
CHELSEA have been linked with Rafael Leao for the last few seasons, they have even made some moves, but they have been unable to convince Milan into letting one of the clubs star players leave the side, they have been unable to get a deal done.
If the rumours are true, if Milan wants to sell, the Chelsea have the money, footballing pedigree and space for a player like Leao to come in and really take the Premier League by storm, the Blues could really be a tempting move for Leao to make that is for sure.
