Oscar-Winning Sci-Fi Action Movie ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Streaming on HBO Mac Now

A modern masterpiece sci-fi movie just landed on streaming. In 2022, audiences were treated to one of the best sci-fi movies in years. The film blended the sensibilities of classic martial arts movies with a dimension-jumping sci-fi plot, resulting in an original feeling sci-fi film that blew audiences (and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) away.

Directed by The Daniels (Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan) and distributed by A24 — so you know it’s weird — HBO Max subscribers can now enjoy one of the best sci-fi movies of the decade. The film starred Hollywood veterans like Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and James Hong, alongside the up-and-coming Stephanie Hsu, and featured a career-reviving performance from Ke Huy Quan. Everything Everywhere All at Once (EEAAO) completely dominated pop culture in 2022, and new viewers are still discovering the movie, especially as it’s now streaming on HBO Max.

Before Marty Supreme, EEAAO was A24’s most commercially successful movie to date. Michelle Yeoh led as Evelyn Quan Wang, who runs a laundromat with her husband Waymond (Quan). While struggling to relate to her daughter and feeling the crushing weight of her business’s dire finances, Evelyn becomes unexpectedly embroiled in a mission to save the universe from the evil, dimension-destroying Jobu Tupaki. But the movie’s action is just a front for its surprisingly emotional and relatable plot about generational differences, and the intricate differences that make everyone unique and individual.

‘EEAAO’s Action Was Designed by YouTubers

It’s no secret that action movies are expensive. You have to hire stunt performers and coordinators, plus all the wires and equipment. Then there’s rehearsal time. Plus any pyrotechnics involved. And, of course, the countless takes required to get a usable take, let alone a good one. Not to mention, everyone has to be fed. So, all in all, very expensive. But, in the age of content creation on YouTube, The Daniels made the most of it and hired two YouTubers to design the movie’s fight scenes. It should go without saying that the results were tremendous.

MartialClub is renowned on YouTube for recreating classic fight scenes and producing original, freshly choreographed fights, amassing millions of views. ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Blends Great Action With an Emotional Story

You don’t win multiple Oscars just by having some good fight scenes. At the core of Everything Everywhere All at Once is the relationship between Evelyn and her daughter. The generational differences are clear, and both sides contribute to the rift in their relationship, so much so that it takes multiple dimensions for the pair to work out their differences.

Caught between them both is Waymond, who might be the healthiest portrayal of masculinity in modern cinema. Ke Huy Quan stole the show as the lovable Waymond, earning an Oscar in the process. Jamie Lee Curtis also continued her bizarre but amazing career trajectory as the accountant in a fat suit with sausage fingers (literally).
