It’s your last chance to watch one of the best action movies in years for free, because it’s about to leave its current streaming home. Major franchises and sequels currently dominate the action genre. John Wick, Mission: Impossible, Gladiator, and Nobody are all fan favorite franchises that get the adrenaline going. But every action fan needs to watch the sleeper hit of the 2020s, which recently received a surprisingly good sequel. What’s better than an action movie? An action movie where Nazis get brutally butchered. For your weekly dose of Nazi-killing action, you need to check out Sisu, while it’s still streaming for free.
Sisu is currently streaming for free on Tubi. But all good things must come to an end, and Sisu‘s time on Tubi is one of those good things. The film is currently listed on Tubi’s “Leaving Soon” page. Annoyingly, Tubi doesn’t provide exact dates for when films will leave its free streaming platform. As a result, it’s best to assume that Sisu will leave free streaming sooner rather than later, so you’d better rush over to Tubi to stream it before it disappears.
Released in 2022, Sisu was proclaimed as the best action movie of that year, if not the 2020s so far. The Finnish production was directed by Jalmari Helander and stars Jorma Tommila as Aatami, a prospector who must recover his stolen gold from Nazi soldiers. Of course, he’s no ordinary prospector, and Aatami sets out on a brutal mission to retrieve what was his and wipe out anyone who stands in the way. Alongside Tommila, the film also stars Mimosa Willamo and Aksel Hennie. The official synopsis reads:
“During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back — even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path.”
‘Sisu’ Was Adored By Critics & Audiences Alike
It feels rare for critics and audiences to share an opinion on a movie, but Sisu is one of those rare cases. The film holds a near-flawless 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were similarly kind to the film, giving it an 88% user score. “I didn’t expect this to be this good. For a very low-budget Action movie, it keeps you entertained with ridiculous kills and the amazing acting from Jorma Tommila. The movie is split into chapters, which gives a very Tarantino style which I love,” wrote one user. Another hailed the film’s Rambo-esque plot with Nazis, writing, “Finnish WW2 Rambo with guts doesn’t even come close to describing the film’s protagonist, but hopefully that’s enough to get you to watch this helluva film.”
Sisu wasn’t a major box office hit in 2022, earning just $14 million worldwide. However, after landing on streaming, it became a major success. Its sequel, 2025’s Sisu: Road to Revenge, unfortunately suffered a similar fate, receiving great reviews but earning just $9 million worldwide.
