One of the 2025’s Best Action Movies With 85% Rotten Tomatoes Score Is a Global Streaming Sensation

One of the best action movies of 2025 is shooting up a storm on the global streaming charts. The movie debuted in March last year and was met with rave reviews from critics and audiences. Unfortunately, it was another victim of 2025’s unpredictable box office, where even major movies like The Fantastic Four: First Steps underperformed. However, with The Boys star, Jack Quaid, leading the action-packed comedy, it was inevitably going to be a streaming hit. But, over six months after it first debuted on streaming, audiences are still obsessed with Novocaine.

Novocaine is currently streaming on Paramount+. When the movie debuted on the platform, it shot to the top of the streamer’s global chart. In February 2026, the movie is still going strong on the streaming charts. At the time of writing, Novocaine is the 10th most popular movie on Paramount+ globally.

Novocaine was co-directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, from a script penned by Lars Jacobson. Inspired by classic action comedies and the superhero genre, the movie follows Nate (Quaid), who is incapable of feeling pain. When his new girlfriend is kidnapped during a bank robbery, Nate must put his unique ability to use to rescue her. Alongside Quaid, Novocaine also stars Amber Midthunder, Jacob Batalon, Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, and Matt Walsh. The official synopsis reads:

When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.

‘Novocaine’ Was a Critical Success

Even though it underperformed at the box office, grossing just $34 million worldwide, Novocaine was one of the rare movies that united critics and audiences. The movie holds a great Rotten Tomatoes score of 81%. MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman gave the movie 3.5/5, writing, “Novocaine launches Jack Quaid to action glory in a gnarly narrative that will have audiences cheering out loud and grimacing at the same time.”

Critics loved the movie, but audiences leveled even more praise on the film, bestowing it with a user score of 84%. “Absolutely criminally underrated movie,” wrote one RT user, while another said, “Super entertaining and really funny movie has an interesting premise and some good twists.”

‘Novocaine’ Is Pure Entertainment

One of Novocaine‘s biggest strengths is that it knows exactly what it is. Action comedies often fall short by leaning too hard on either of the two genres. However, Novocaine strikes the balance perfectly.

As the trailers have promised, Novocaine is absolutely action-packed. Nate’s ability leads to some incredibly creative and exciting action scenes. But, between the action, and oftentimes during the fight scenes, Quaid’s natural comedic charm steals the scene. Before landing his biggest roles, Jack Quaid was part of an online comedy group making short sketches, and his comedic experience is apparent from the movie’s first scene. Novocaine is the perfect movie for an action-packed movie night.
