‘One Battle After Another’ Star Teyana Taylor Is “Begging” for a Sequel

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer One Battle After Another has been a dominant force during the 2026 awards season, securing major wins at the industry’s most prestigious ceremonies, such as the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Critics’ Choice Awards. The film is also considered a frontrunner at the 98th Academy Awards, where it has received 13 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. The buzz surrounding the action-thriller has fueled conversations about a potential sequel – not only from fans, but also the cast, particularly Teyana Taylor, who is keen to delve deeper into the story of her character, Perfidia Beverly Hills.

Despite starring in several films following her big screen debut in 2010, Taylor’s role in One Battle After Another is widely considered her ultimate breakout, cementing her status as a top-tier Hollywood star. Her character, Perfidia, is a far-left revolutionary and a leading member of the activist group French 75. She is also the former partner of Bob Ferguson (DiCaprio) and mother to Willa (Chase Infiniti), who are forced to survive off-grid together after Perfidia sells them out to save herself from prison. Taylor’s performance earned her a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actress and an adjacent Academy Award nomination, so it is not surprising that the actress is “begging” Anderson to move forward with a sequel to revisit the role.

“The conversations are very, very real,” she told IndieWire of the discussions she is having with Anderson behind the scenes regarding a potential One Battle After Another sequel. “I want to give everybody confirmation that I am currently begging PTA to give us that. I’m begging him to give us that.”

Anderson has historically not made sequels to his films, but Taylor’s remarks suggest he might be considering a landmark return to One Battle After Another. The actress explained where she sees the project going if it proceeds beyond the discussions, as she expressed her hopes for an offshoot centered around her character, exploring her 16-year exile in Mexico and what happened after the film’s conclusion, particularly with her daughter Willa, who she vowed to reconnect with “when it’s right, and it’s safe.” She told the outlet:

“It’s already a journey in real time, but I’m so focused on being present that I haven’t really taken a seat to really process and be like, ‘Oh, yeah, they want more of me.’ Here and there, I make little jokes with Paul. I’m like, ‘We need to see what Perfidia did in those 16 years.’ But Perfidia and Willa need some scenes together. When Willa walked out the door in that last scene, I said, ‘Where’s she really going? Is she going to free Deandra? Is she going to find her mommy?’ I love that it’s still hopeful, and it’s room for a little part two in there somewhere.”
