Oliver Glasner’s hopes of landing Man United job dented by significant new development – Man United News And Transfer News

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is reportedly facing an uphill battle to become the next permanent head coach of Manchester United.

Glasner on United’s radar

United are believed to be long-term admirers of Glasner due to the fantastic work he has done at Palace since he joined the club.

He led the Eagles to their first major trophy last season, beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley. He also got the better of the reigning Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield at the start of the current campaign.

Glasner has moulded Palace into a resilient side that combines defensive solidity with attractive football, all while working with limited resources.

However, over the past few months, things have soured somewhat due to what Glasner perceives as a lack of ambition from the club. Palace sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer, then repeated the trick in the winter window by offloading contract rebel Marc Guehi to Manchester City.

Glasner has been critical of Palace’s board and has also clashed with supporters, who recently directed the chant “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at him during a game. There were suggestions that he was on the brink of a sack but he is expected to see out the season at Selhurst Park and then move on.

According to Football Insider, United’s top brass have taken note of Glasner’s outbursts in press conferences, and it has not gone down well with them.

Glasner takes hit

Peter O’Rourke said about the Austrian coach, “Yeah, I think it definitely raises a few red flags, his recent behaviour. I don’t think you’d be able to get away with that at Man United.”

“As a Manchester United manager, you have to put up with all types of adversity, so much scrutiny and pressure on the position.”

“I don’t think anybody higher up at Old Trafford would appreciate some of the things that Oliver Glasner has done at Palace recently.”

“He is a frustrated figure at the minute, with the way things have worked out at Crystal Palace, having to sell their best players in the last two windows.”

“I think he was always an outsider anyway for the Man United job. Glasner, we know, has done a really good job at Palace, but I don’t think he was ever a front runner for this Manchester United role.”

Caretaker boss Michael Carrick got the better of Glasner on Sunday as the two locked horns at Old Trafford. United came from behind to win 2-1 courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko.

United return to action on Wednesday when they go away to Newcastle.
