At a time when the likes of Pedro Fernandez ‘Dro’, Mamadou Mbacke Fall and Andres Cuenca appear to be on the verge of leaving La Masia, Barcelona have announced an important contract renewal.
In an official tweet, the club have confirmed an agreement with 15-year-old prodigy Ebrima Tunkara for his continued stay at the club.
“FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with the player Ebrima Tunkara for his continued stay at the Club in the youth stage. The agreement will take effect when the player turns 16 years old,” the club confirmed on X.
A big win for Barcelona?
The professional contract Tunkara is a major boost for Barcelona, especially when the club are struggling to keep hold of some of the top talents at La Masia.
Dro’s decision to leave the club had already rocked the Blaugrana earlier this month, while defensive prospect Andres Cuenca is now closing in on a move to Como as well.
The agreement with Tunkara, therefore, could be integral, as the teenager is regarded as one of the most gifted talents at La Masia right now.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Tunkara has already impressed the Barcelona coaches and recently made a huge step by joining Pol Planas’ Juvenil A team directly. His physique, coupled with his technical abilities have made him an attractive talent for La Masia.
The agreement with Tunkara will be ratified once the player turns 16 towards the end of the year. Until then, he is expected to continue his development under the leadership of Planas.
Barcelona want Tunkara to be patient and wait for his opportunities – something his entourage also agrees with. The player, after all, is represented by Pini Zahavi, who also manages Hansi Flick and Robert Lewandowski.
