Ever since the release of its first-ever video game in 2003, the Call of Duty franchise just keeps on trucking. Fans eagerly await Black Ops 7, and the installments that have hit store shelves in the last decade have consistently upped the ante. Josh Duhamel (Ransom Canyon) lent his talents to Call of Duty: WWII (2017), while famed Ecuadorian actress Maria Elisa Camargo starred in both Warfare II (2022) and Warzone 2.0 (2023). It’s always an added treat when Hollywood gets involved in high-profile video games — and interestingly, both Duhamel and Camargo can now be spotted in a live-action thriller that Lionsgate just released.
MovieWeb recently spoke with Camargo while she was promoting Off the Grid, which sees Duhamel’s lead character doing just that for the sake of international security. Camargo plays a local shop owner looking out for the lone wolf, and the actress spoke about brushing up on her familiarity with Duhamel’s work leading up to production of Off the Grid, directed by Johnny Martin.

The actor spoke to MovieWeb amid the release of ‘Off the Grid,’ which also stars Greg Kinnear, and commented on the ‘Transformers-G.I. Joe’ crossover.
“I had seen him, obviously, in Transformers,” she told MovieWeb. “I had seen the movie that he wrote and directed… Buddy Games… oh my God, it’s so funny… I was, like, very excited about finding out who I was working with. So, of course, I saw a lot of [director] Johnny’s movies, and I was so, like, in shock that his last movie [featured] Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta. I was like, ‘Wow. And you saw me?’ That was just insane.”
Authentically ‘Off the Grid’
Camargo continued, heaping praise on her Off the Grid co-stars Josh Duhamel and Greg Kinnear…
“I checked a bunch of interviews of Josh and [Off the Grid co-star] Greg Kinnear, who I also had a couple of scenes with, just to kind of see what they were about. And then I realized that Josh is kind of exactly how he did the whole Buddy Games experience because he’s just so much fun. He’s just, you know, so humble, like, zero ego. He’s just funny like that. He’s just a beautiful human being, like, down to earth, like no one because, you know, in Latin America, sometimes we all believe we’re novel stars, and we just levitate. And I would expect Hollywood to be — if anything — even, you know, more intense. And everyone was just so sweet. It was just my biggest surprise. Greg Kinnear also was such a joy, such a delight.”
MovieWeb spoke with Off the Grid director Johnny Martin as well, amid the film’s recent release, and the longtime Hollywood filmmaker also sang praises for Camargo’s co-star Duhamel. “Josh is an off-the-grid kind of guy. He has a place in Minnesota that he lives in off the grid,” said Martin. “So when I wrote the script with my partner, we basically designed it for Josh in mind, thinking that, you know, let’s write scripts that fit the actors as well, than just them trying to perform that character.”
Check out the authenticity for yourself. From Lionsgate, Off the Grid is now available in theaters, on demand and on digital.
