Arne Slot has a lot of options in the centre forward position, and while he has his preference to play highly clinical players in the front line, Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez has not been getting the needed game time at Anfield Stadium this season.
The former Benfica man has been an inconsistent presence at L4 with a high ratio of big chances missed, and while that does mean that Nunez is getting into the right spaces, it’s those easy misses that have been a thing of frustration for the Kop.
The 1999-born striker has scored five goals and provided a couple of assists in the English top tier in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign, which are not ideal numbers given how much the supporters at Anfield expect from him. And the Reds have been considering parting ways with the 25-year-old in the upcoming summer transfer window.
San Siro calling Nunez?
Italian giants AC Milan are looking to table a possible €60 million move to sign Núñez when the off-season comes around, per Fichajes. They are looking to restructure their squad at San Siro, and bringing in the 25-year-old could be the marquee signing they are looking for under Sérgio Conceição.
Alongside the Serie A side, the Saudi Pro League also looks like a reasonable destination given how the Middle Eastern League is compounding its investments in highly acclaimed players from the top five European leagues, and they wouldn’t mind matching (or in that case, exceeding) AC Milan’s bid to snap Nunez’s signature.
Any reasonable fee for Darwin should help Liverpool to invest in a much-needed replacement for Mohamed Salah given the uncertainties surrounding the Egyptian’s future at Anfield as well.
