Newcastle pull out of loan deal after double boost & striker sagas set for final day chaos

On Friday, Sky Italy reported that Newcastle United had launched a loan-to-buy bid for Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi.

It was claimed the obligation to buy was set at around €40m, but included ‘difficult terms’ that did not appeal to the Serie A giants.

It would be a big shock to see Newcastle bring in a seventh midfielder, and The Mail’s Craig Hope has offered an update on our interest in the 25-year-old Italian.

Hope reveals that Newcastle DID make an enquiry about Frattesi’s availability earlier in the week, but it was a deal dependant on injuries to Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.

Both were forced off against Liverpool on Monday, but with big Joe back after the international break and Tonali fit to play in Saturday night’s 0-0 at Leeds, Newcastle’s pursuit of Frattesi will not progress.

Hope insists that the main focus of the higher-ups at Newcastle United is on a second striker, with the club looking at cover for the released Callum Wilson; who grabbed his first West Ham goal today in a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

Finding someone to compete with new £69m man Nick Woltemade is the major priority heading into the final 24 hours of the window, although there are serious doubts around our ability to sign either Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

A move for Wissa may depend on the Bees landing Dortmund striker Max Beier, although their opening offer worth £45m was rejected. If there is no movement there, it’s believed Brentford will demand upwards of £60m for the 28-year-old, which Newcastle will not pay given his age and contract situation.

At Molineux, we’ve had £50m and £55m bids rejected for Strand Larsen, who Wolves insist is not for sale, despite Newcastle’s persistence.

The Norwegian missed their 3-2 defeat to Everton yesterday and is keen to arrive on Tyneside, much like Wissa. But unless Wolves somehow land a few strikers in the next 24 hours, it’s looking unlikely he arrives.

With all this in mind, could Alexander Isak end up staying? If we don’t see progress on striker deals soon and Liverpool don’t return with a much bigger offer, it’s looking more and more likely…
