Newcastle move for French international forward – Foot Mercato

This summer hasn’t seen the smooth transfer window that many Newcastle United fans were hopping it would bring.

Top targets have ended up elsewhere on several occasions and it’s left many wondering if it’s time to ditch domestic deals and explore the overseas market.

The latest link suggests we could be doing exactly that for a certain French international looking to land a permanent move this summer – but it won’t be without more ‘big six’ competition!

According to Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, Newcastle are working on a deal to sign Randal Kolo-Muani from PSG.

Aouna reports that we’ve ‘made contact’ over the potential transfer of the versatile striker, who spent last season on loan with Juventus, believing he’s a ‘well-rounded’ forward and the pedigree to improve our attack.

However, we’re not the only Premier League club interested, with Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd also being linked with Kolo-Muani in the same report.

It’s no secret that the Red Devils are in the market for a striker, with Rasmus Hojlund looking to be offloaded, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that they’re also in with the 26-year-old, with Juventus also keen to sign him permanently after his successful loan spell.

With eight goals in 19 appearances last season, Kolo-Muani feels like he’s been on the precipice of something great for years now.

And with him no longer in Luis Enrique’s plans at PSG next season, we could potentially secure a bargain for a player boasting strong continental and international experience.

Having Alexander Isak at Newcastle United is proving to be both a blessing and a curse for Eddie Howe.

We saw with both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro that it’s incredibly difficult to tempt strikers wanting first team minutes to join us when arguably the best striker in the country also plays for the club.

Aouna highlights that Kolo-Muani excels at being a “modern nine”, but there’s a chance we could certainly get the former Frankfurt star play alongside Isak or out wide, with 34 of his career outings coming down the flanks.

At this point, we are clamouring for fresh names through the door, and Kolo-Muani could add pace, versatility and Champions League experience to our squad.
