Addressing Newcastle’s lack of full-back cover will be another key theme to this summer’s transfer window.
We may require a new goalkeeper, with a creative midfielder also set to be targeted along with a young centre-back, but the lack of depth in full-back positions has been an issue for so much of 2025/26.
Whether it’s Tino Livramento’s injury woes, leaving us short down both flanks, Dan Burn’s inability to play at left-back, Matt Targett’s loan to Middlesbrough, Kieran Trippier’s age or Emil Krath’s season-ending injury, we’ve rarely had suitable cover for Lewis Hall, while a 35-year-old Trippier has had to play too much football on the right.
This brings us to a new transfer link and a player we revealed Newcastle were watching last year, who could be an ideal addition to the squad this summer.
Wolves talent Hugo Bueno looks set to be high on the list of left-back targets at Newcastle this summer.
As revealed by Craig Hope in his latest Confidential Column for The Mail, Newcastle have been impressed by the 23-year-old Spaniard, who has shone since Rob Edwards’ arrival at Molineux.
The club are thought to be impressed by Bueno’s athleticism and ability to play in all positions down that left flank, with Newcastle sensing a position to pounce should Wolves suffer relegation to the Championship.
Bueno has played 29 times for Wolves this season, stands just shy of six foot tall and has caps for Spain at Under-18 and Under-21 level.
In same report for The Mail, Craig Hope offered a pretty categoric update on Trippier and Krafth’s long term future.
He claims that both WILL leave at the end of the season, suggesting little to no chance of extensions as the experience pair enter the final few months of their contracts on Tyneside.
Trippier is 35 and may be eyeing one final payday abroad, while Krafth has been linked with a move to Danish giants Copenhagen.
Although both are right-sided options, this only intensifies our need for full-back signings this summer, with left and right-sided additions needed.
