Newcastle interested in £52m Chelsea star as Blues eye £100m double deal – Report

Newcastle interested in £52m Chelsea star as Blues eye £100m double deal – Report

If there’s one club that has perhaps hindered us the most in the transfer market this summer, it’s Chelsea.

Enzo Marseca’s side notably snapped up both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro for big money, further saturating their attacking options and greatly outspending us and other Premier League clubs in the process.

This scattergun approach doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of ending either, as new targets for the Blues seemingly emerge every single day.

But Chelsea could instead provide the answer to our ongoing striker woes, as we reportedly eye up a move for one of their big-money buys that hasn’t got the game time he expected at Stamford Bridge.

According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Newcastle are showing interest in Christopher Nkunku as Chelsea look to offload the versatile forward to boost their own spending potential.

The former RB Leipzig star scored 15 goals in all competitions last season but found Premier League starts hard to come by, and may be further down the pecking order now Joao Pedro has arrived in attack.

Wages could be an issue and there are several other clubs in the mix, including Nottingham Forest, but he could be an intriguing option given his ability to play up front, as a number 10 and in midfield.

Law writes: ‘Chelsea will offset their spending by making over £200m in sales, with Christopher Nkunku the latest example of the kind of interest their fringe players can generate.

‘Bayern Munich, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and clubs in Italy have all registered an interest in Nkunku.’

And the Frenchman isn’t the only Chelsea name we’ve been linked to, as the Blues are currently asking for £30m to sell Tosin Adarabioyo: who they managed to beat us to when he was a free agent at Fulham just over 12 months ago.

But whilst we’re looking at moves for one of their current players, Chelsea have taken a fancy to two names previously linked with a move to Tyneside earlier this summer.

Xavi Simons is the main one. We were tenuously linked with the Dutchman earlier in the window, but Law comments that the RB Leipzig star “wants to join Chelsea” this summer as talks take place.

Valued at £60m, just where Simons actually fits into Chelsea’s starting XI remains to be seen. But that’s something that hasn’t stopped Todd Boehly and co.  before.

Another young Dutch prospect tipped to arrive at Stamford Bridge is Ajax’s £40m-rated Jorrel Hato.

Some fans will recall that he was on our transfer radar back in May during his U-21 EUROs campaign, with the i’s Mark Douglas revealing our interest.

Though it’s unlikely we would have put up the funds to secure either player, it’s getting particularly frustrating to see Chelsea spend so lavishly whilst Newcastle are still seemingly confined to having to sell to buy even in 2025.
