Deadline day is here, and it promises to be one of the most chaotic ends to a summer transfer window we’ve ever seen at Newcastle United.
Nick Woltemade has signed as the long-term replacement for Alexander Isak, but another striker signing feels absolutely essential if we are to sanction the Swede’s proposed move to Liverpool.
Several names will be linked over the coming hours, with Newcastle’s still desperately needing that Callum Wilson replacement, and the latest option features another big man currently available in Italy.
According to Alan Nixon at The Sun, Newcastle are speaking to AS Roma about a late deal for Ukrainian striker Artem Dobvyk.
He reports that talks have taken place between the two clubs, with Newcastle exploring the possibility of a loan deal with a view to potentially buy the powerful 28-year-old next summer.
Roma are willing to part with the former Girona star, but are demanding either a hefty loan fee or an obligation to buy to be included in any deal.
Dobvyk scored 17 goals for Roma last season following a £30m+ switch from Girona, with his last year in Spain (2023/24) seeing him bag an outstanding 25 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.
A switch from Premier League proven options to someone like Dobvyk would come with an element of risk, but with Wolves and Brentford standing firm on Jorgen Strand Larsen and Yoane Wissa, Newcastle are wise to consider all the late options on the market to avoid being left with Will Osula as our only back-up striker.
