Newcastle identify Real Sociedad star as potential summer replacement – Report

Heading into the summer, it’s widely reported that we have identified four priority positions, with a goalkeeper, centre-back, right-winger and striker expected to be high on Eddie Howe’s wanted list.

However, other areas of the squad may also be addressed, particularly if certain members of the current squad are moved on.

One player tipped to leave in recent windows is Kieran Trippier, and reports in South America today suggest we have a replacement in mind should the 34-year-old depart this summer.

According to South American broadcaster Direct TV Sports, Newcastle United are showing interest in Venezuelan star Jon Aramburu.

They report that Newcastle are in the mix to sign the 22-year-old this summer, with Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan also keen on the versatile defender.

DSports state that the club are expecting Kieran Trippier to depart at the end of the season and have identified Aramburu as a potential replacement.

Much like Tino Livramento, Aramburu can also operate as a left-back and has also operated on the right side of a back three, although he is a right-back by trade.

He won’t be cheap, however, having recently extended his contract with the La Liga side until 2030.

If Trippier does depart, we can expect Livramento to nail down that right-back spot, although we’ll need to consider our squad depth in that department.

Emil Krafth is under contract and a trusted part of Howe’s squad, while 18-year-old England youth international Leo Shahar is one to watch after he was called up to the squad for Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Brentford.

But, with European football returning next season, we’ll need strength in depth in all positions, so it will be interesting to see if another right-back arrives should Trippier move on this summer.
