Newcastle facing THREE major obstacles in bid re-sign Elliot Anderson

Newcastle’s decision to sell Elliot Anderson in fear of a PSR breach and points deduction felt like a sad but necessary move last summer.

At the time, selling our Academy star felt more palatable than losing a first-team regular, with the youngster yet to take Joelinton’s place in our best starting 11, despite being highly-rated by Eddie Howe and extremely versatile.

But, almost 18 months on, we are left regretting our decision to sell for just £15m, with Nottingham Forest not only landing themselves an absolute bargain but a gem of a player now considered one of the best in his position in the Premier League.

According to a new report from The Telegraph, Newcastle are facing three major challenges in their bid to re-sign Anderson, despite showing ‘strong interest’ alongside Manchester United.

First of all, Midlands reporter John Percy reveals that Forest have already categorically ruled out a January sale, insisting the 23-year-old will not be sold at any price in the New Year.

But beyond that, they are expected to demand £100m-plus for the midfielder, who is under contract until 2029, now an England regular and tipped to start alongside Declan Rice at next year’s World Cup in North America.

If those two hurdles weren’t enough, alongside no buy-back clause for Newcastle, it’s believed a number of Champions League clubs are expected to be in the mix for Anderson’s signature next summer. Although a return to Tyneside may appeal to the Whitley Bay-born man, Newcastle have a tough task to offer Champions League football next season when we currently find ourselves down in 14th.

Discussing the Geordie talent after England’s 2-0 win over Albania on Sunday, Tuchel said: “Anderson is a key player for us at the moment. He is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, that’s why he is with us and starting for us.

“He deserves it because he has been nothing but impressive. He has to keep on going now though. He is a very complete and mobile midfielder, and that’s what he keeps showing me.

“He is an elite player with the right attitude and a lot of talent. He is fulfilling his role in the best way possible so we are very happy with him.”
