Newcastle eyeing Anan Khalaili after Steve Nickson approval – Report

The summer window may be a few months away, but Newcastle United will already be lining up potential targets and watching them closely.

That brings us to the latest name linked with a possible move to St James’ Park, with a new report naming a highly-rated wide man on our radar.

As revealed by The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle are watching winger Anan Khalaili, who has been impressing with Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.

In his Thursday night Confidential Column, Hope claims that the 21-year-old has been discussed internally, with the club’s top scouts, including head of recruitment Steve Nickson, big fans of the right-sided Israeli international.

It’s thought Khalaili’s mixture of speed and technical ability has impressed Newcastle talent-spotters, not to mention the fact he’s six foot tall and has shown glimpses of real talent in the Champions League this season.

The former Maccabi Haifa wide man scored both of USG’s goals in a 3-2 defeat to Marseille, also grabbing the winner in a victory over last 16 side Atalanta in January.

He’s scored five goals so far this season and has 15 caps for his country. Hope claims that Ross Wilson is keen to bring in value for money gems from across Europe this summer, revealing that scouting trips have taken place across Belgium, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

Having paid £55m for Anthony Elanga last summer, it’s believed a young, low-cost right winger could arrive to support the struggling Swedish international, meaning a player of Khalaili’s profile could be targeted.
