Last summer, it was widely reported that Eddie Howe wanted SIX midfielders to work with heading into the 2025/26 season.
Right now, we have exactly that in Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Jacob Ramsey, Lewis Miley and Joe Willock. A strong set of options, although it seems this position could be set for a summer shake-up.
In his latest piece for The iPaper, Mark Douglas reports that Newcastle are preparing a succession plan should Tonali seal a big-money exit this summer, also revealing that Willock could ask to leave for more game time.
On that note, Douglas claims that Newcastle are taking a very close look at Monaco’s Lamine Camara.
He reports that thee 22-year-old has been watched ‘extensively’ by Newcastle scouts over the past few months, suggesting we are stepping up our interest in the all-action, energetic and technically able midfielder heading into the summer.
Camara has played 15 times in the Champions League, recently impressing in Monaco’s marginal play-off defeat to PSG, and helped Senegal lift the African Cup of Nations title in January.
Whether it’s Tonali and/or Willock that depart this summer, Newcastle and new sporting director are right to get irons in the fire. And it seems Camara features high on our list of possible targets should we pursue another midfielder this summer.
