Newcastle confirm injury blow and triple boost for Marseille trip – Eddie Howe update

The Newcastle United squad have touched down in France ahead of our Champions League clash with Marseille tomorrow night.

Speaking to the media today, Eddie Howe has offered an update on the fitness front, revealing one Mag who hasn’t made the trip and a couple of players who are back from injury.

The bad news is that Kieran Trippier will miss out again with a hamstring injury, with the boss unable to say when the 35-year-old will return after he was absent from the squad on Saturday night.

However, the good news is that Anthony Gordon is back from a hip injury, with Dan Burn available after suspension, and Emil Krafth also fit again after a minor issue kept him out of our 2-1 win over Man City.

Discussing all of the above on media duties from the Stade Velodrome, Howe said:

“We are good, boosted by the result against Manchester City.

“Team news wise we are similar; we welcome back Dan Burn from suspension, Anthony Gordon and Emil Krafth have travelled with us.

“Kieran Trippier (hamstring) hasn’t travelled. I am not sure how long Kieran will be out.”

Lewis Hall’s withdrawal on Saturday was due to cramp, but Howe did comment that he has a decision to make on him and Tino Livramento.

The pair were sensational against Man City and would both start again in an ideal world. However, the boss will be speaking to the club’s medical team and deciding how to manage their minutes after recent spells on the sidelines.
