Despite Jacob Murphy’s huge upturn in form the last month or so, Newcastle United are continuing the search for our new star winger to complete what is already a very exciting attack.
It’s been six long years since we last signed a first-team right-sided attacker with Miguel Almiron joining the club in January 2019 and given the struggles we’ve had in this position this simply has to change.
There are a number of names who have been linked to Newcastle, but those at the top of the club will have to find the perfect addition to compliment and star alongside Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.
According to French outlet L’Equipe, Newcastle could rival PSG in the race to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as he prepares to leave Napoli in 2025.
There are a number of clubs who have shown interest in the two-footed Georgian international in the past, but Napoli deemed him to be too important to their project having helped them win the Scudetto in 2023.
However, it’s understood that the Serie A club have now softened their stance on the 23-year-old and could move him on in one of the next two windows, though that would only be for the right price.
Along with Newcastle and PSG, Chelsea are also believed to be in the mix and it’s thought that a few somewhere in the region of €70-€90m (£58-£75m) should be enough to secure his signature.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with Kvaratskhelia, with The Times’ Martin Hardy reporting that he was identified as a ‘major transfer target’ at the club two seasons ago.
It feels like a long shot, but the arrival of someone like Kvaratskhelia, who is being sought after by some of Europe’s best, would not only be a statement of intent but could also complete an already exciting attack. It goes without saying, however, that we’d have to secure Champions League football to stand a chance.
Even now with Murphy out on the right-wing, the team look like a real force to be reckoned with and able to compete with any team in the league as we’ve proved over the last few weeks with some tough fixtures.
But this signing could take us beyond just competing for a top four position and make us potentially one defensive signing away from having one of the best teams in the division.
