A slow start to the summer is set to pick up next week, according to a new report.
According to Mark Douglas at the iPaper, Newcastle’s pursuit of Brighton’s Joao Pedro is now “advancing”, suggesting progress has been made on our bid to sign the Brazilian.
It was reported yesterday by Fabrizio Romano that Chelsea are in the mix for the 23-year-old, however, it seems like Newcastle are well-positioned to strike a deal following talks.
Douglas states that, despite interest from Chelsea, Newcastle are in ‘pole position’ to land the former Watford star who almost signed at St James’ Park three years ago.
He also reports that business on Tyneside is expected to “ramp up” next week, offering hope that a transfer breakthrough is not far away after a frustrating few weeks.
Earlier this week, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards revealed that Newcastle had entered formal talks to sign Joao Pedro, who is thought to be open to arriving on Tyneside despite some suggestions he’d prefer a move to London.
Elsewhere, Douglas stated that Burnley’s James Trafford remains keen to sign, but Newcastle are hoping to strike a deal below the figures quotes by the newly-promoted clarets.
