New quotes from Alexander Isak on contract talks, Arsenal links and Newcastle future

Alexander Isak has issued an encouraging response to conflicting reports around his contract situation and ongoing links with Arsenal, insisting a lot of what has been reported in the media is “not true.”

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbol Skanalen ahead of upcoming games against Martin Dubravka’s Slovakia and Azerbaijan in the Nations League, the striker insisted he’s only focused on Newcastle United and refuses to pay much attention to “rumours.”

“I have no thoughts about anything else” (other than Newcastle) was his message as he backed the club to have a “fantastic season”, while every man and his dog continually tips Arsenal to make a move for the striker.

Asked about reported contract talks and suggestions talks have stalled over an extension, Isak said “much of what I read is not true”, again pouring cold water on some of the noise emerging around his future on Tyneside.

Quizzed on links to Arsenal, he said: “Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me.

“I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else.”

Isak then responded to claims suggesting his representatives are growing frustrated with Newcastle after contract talks. Asked directly about this, he added: “The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”

There’ll come a day where Newcastle will struggle to keep a hold of Isak if we he continues to score goals for fun – he has four in his last four – and we fail to qualify for the Champions League, but the man himself seems happy on Tyneside, focused on Newcastle and eager to ignore all the noise around a potential move; long may that continue.
