The search for who will lead Amazon’s James Bond reboot may finally be over, as one hot favorite has reportedly been “blabbing all over town” that he has indeed snagged the coveted role of the new 007. Rumors and speculation regarding who will lead James Bond 26 have been rife ever since Daniel Craig made his explosive exit from the franchise in 2021’s No Time to Die. Now, because this actor is so unlike Bond that he can’t even keep a secret, we may finally know who will don the iconic tux.
According to a source close to the actor (via The Mail), Fantastic Beasts and Masters of the Air star Callum Turner will be the next James Bond. The actor reportedly spent the holiday “blabbing all over town” that he has been chosen to lead the beloved action franchise into the next era after being “officially confirmed as the new 007,” with the news being “the worst-kept secret going.”
Not only will Callum Turner reportedly lead the James Bond franchise, but his fiancée, the pop icon Dua Lipa, will reportedly perform the new theme. All of which confirms rumors from last year.
While at 35, Callum Turner may be a little older than the “fresh face” star Amazon has been rumored to be looking for, the Neuromancer actor has the kind of lower profile that the franchise has gravitated towards when seeking out its lead, as well as possessing the looks and acting chops to make an elite 007 under the direction of Denis Villeneuve. He is also a safe choice for the role which, while disappointing those fans who would like to see the franchise refreshed for the modern age, is the more likely outcome under Amazon, who will want to keep old-school fans on side as they attempt to reboot the series away from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Jeff Bezos Is Reportedly Heavily Involved in the James Bond Reboot
While we wait for official confirmation regarding whether Callum Turner will be the next James Bond (or if the actor has simply gotten ahead of himself), it has been reported that Amazon boss Jeff Bezos is a “massive fan” of the 007 series and is “closely involved in all aspects of taking Bond forward.” Which should shivers down your spine. A source close to Bezos said…
“Jeff is closely involved in all aspects of taking Bond forward. He doesn’t want to mess this up. He knows what an important place Bond holds in people’s hearts. Whoever is chosen to be Bond has to be perfect.
The script has to be sensational. It has to have all the elements of Bond, like great action sequences and gorgeous Bond girls, while making it fresh and exciting for a new generation.”
Once you’ve gotten over the spine shivers, and despite it likely being against every fiber of your being, perhaps we need, and it truly hurts to say this, cut Bezos some slack? So far, the James Bond reboot is in great shape, with Dune director Denis Villeneuve on board alongside Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who is now writing the script. And with Callum Turner in the lead, the next 007 era could get off to a seriously solid start.
