Fresh off of the Oscar-nominated Conclave, John Lithgow has committed to playing one of the most iconic Harry Potter characters of all time in HBO’s upcoming reboot. After being in negotiations with the network, the actor recently confirmed he will form part of the new series, playing the headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore. And while no other actors have been officially revealed from HBO’s Harry Potter, Lithgow has some exciting words about what he believes will be a “tremendous” cast.
Speaking with MovieWeb, Lithgow expressed his excitement about joining HBO’s Harry Potter reboot and teased that he will be “working with great people in a great city full of great actors.” The six-time Emmy winner also revealed his reaction to people sharing their glowing opinions about his career-defining casting as Dumbledore.
“It’s going to be working with great people in a great city full of great actors. I just know that the casts for these seven seasons, it’s going to be tremendous. So, yeah, I’m excited. And, I mean, I have never experienced such excitement from people just getting news. ‘Oh God, of course. Hey, you’re the perfect Dumbledore.’ Like, What? What? I must say, I was a huge fan of Michael Gambon, a man I never met, and I thought he was completely wonderful as Dumbledore, there is a uncanny factoid that he and I have the same birthday!”
